Are you listening with wired headphones though? You can't play at anything higher than 48kHz with Bluetooth, unless you're using our new UAT format, which your headphones don't support...

Just as an added data point I, too, am listening with wired headphones and I never see any reported bitrate other than 44.1 in the title bar when playing content in the Amazon app.

As for the UAT format comment, that leads me to a tangential, total newb question: Is there some sort of manual somewhere that explains the various settings options in the Hiby Music app? For example, I have no idea what "LHDC(HWA)" means and whether I should have it on or off. And I assume that the various USB audio settings only apply when I'm using the R6 with some sort of external DAC but I really have no idea.

I tried looking on the Downloads page of the Hiby website and found the R6 manual but it really only covers the hardware itself and not the software settings.

So a bit of a noob when it comes to bluetooth stuff. Just got the sony m3's (headphones not in ears). Aside from switching bluetooth on in the setting of the r6 and choosing quality option is there anything else I should know about?

LHDC is yet aother bluetooth audio transmission format, developed by Huawei. It's seen little hardware support yet so they're glad to have us onboard with a software encoder.

And yes about the USB audio settings.

Have you tried tapping the (?) or (i) icons on the same line as some of these settings?

In HiBy defenses, it seems the Pro is a response to criticism laid again the R6, not a planned release.

Many people hated the 10ohm, calling it a deal breaker, and wished for a balanced 4.4 jack. "So here you go," HiBy retorted.

What's else in the Pro that is different? I hear better amplification. Anything else?

Well I guess those things should be running changes (continuous improvement) like Spyderco does. It is an idea whose time has come long ago. I'm with the guys who resent their purchases diving in value and becoming also-rans 2 days after we open the package. FiiO did this to me enough times that I'll never buy their stuff again. I don't know about Hiby because they're newer but FiiO is famous for saying yeah this is a bug but it will never be fixed cuz we're not doing any more firmware for this. We have new devices now. Well that's very nice for you, but as a customer I'm not really interested in paying for R&D for the next guy.

Well, you can't really remove 10 ohms and change the type of jack port in a firmware update

That's true but I wasn't talking about *only* firmware updates. Using Spyderco knives as an example, when they come out with a knife and people give feedback on it or there are issues, they make changes in production and the knife gets the improvements as soon as possible. It doesn't always help the guy who already bought the knife but it helps future customers without the previous version becoming obsolete over night. And in some cases the earlier versions hold their value better. In some cases it's possible to send the knife back to get the upgrade(s).

Not exactly analogous to DAPs, but what they can fix in firmware they should fix and legitimate issues brought up by customers should be running changes in many cases rather than new versions.

I suppose we should put it up to a vote as to
1. Whether we should name new versions of the DAP as a new product, or make them look like the old thing and call them the old thing even though they are different inside?
2. Whether that benefits existing owners at all (other than allowing them to sell an old version for the price of a new version to a confused newbie?)
3. Whether the loss of the chance to advertise new products benefits anybody. I know it doesn't benefit the company  , but does it even benefit customers?

It depends on the scope of the changes. From what I read there are very few changes in the Pro vs. the standard. And like I said there is a precedent for this and so far people like it.

I don't see why they couldn't publicize the running changes and point out how they're responsive to customer input rather than figuring out a new way to jack up the price...

Very few changes? I think you are mistaken here. Cosmetically maybe but the whole amplification section is changed, the pro is much more powerful and with a very low output impedance with a 4.4mm balanced output... If that doesn't qualify for a "pro" moniker I don't know what does...
You don't have to like it but please, a little more "finesse" wouldn't hurt
