You won't be able to do that with MQA tracks on TIDAL on any player because MQA prohibits DSP.

If you're talking about regular tracks, "Sound Filed" (sic) is available as a systemwide audio plugin as well, if your R6 is running latest Android 8.1 firmware.
Thanks again. Understood, but does Android itself have a mono setting? Sorry, but I’m an iOS user and have no experience of Android. For example, you can go into the system wide settings in an iPhone and switch to mono.

Not on a regular Android, but as I pointed out, Sound Field is available as a system wide setting on the R6 (android 8.1 latest firmware), except overridden by MQA.

Very possible given the fact that they just launched the revamped R6 yesterday:

Someone who shall not be named said that once Hiby Gets your money, they don’t do a long follow-up of updates.
Out of the Chinese DAP makers, Hiby is in the middle of the pack. I think FiiO is best in that regards, and Hidisz is by far the worst...

Would've preferred just two small semi-rings around the volume knob; that extra piece on top makes it look too chunky. Also, not too keen on the big Hiby logo on the bottom bezel. Overall I prefer the older, but cleaner & more streamlined look.
The piece on top is a whole external WiFi and Bluetooth antenna...

I'm surprised you'd say that. As far as I can tell, FiiO goes through more new models each season than HiBy and Hidisz put together in a whole year.

Do you remember when the R6 was actually released originally?

Meanwhile, regardless of last firmware update date, what's the oldest FiiO that has the equivalent of a Snapdragon 425 and Android 8.1?

Finally, regardless of age, I'm still interested to hear what problem you still have with the R6 software wise, to see if we can fix it.
