I have hope a rockbox port will come out sooner or later. i saw someone started working on it in their forum.
Somewhat curious how Rockbox could make the R1 any better. In the case of, say, the Fiio m3k, it made the UI usable, responsive and playback snappier. Everything is already fairly fluid as-is, and other features are always "in beta" and fairly broken on these smaller ports. That said, I'd love to follow that development.

Rockbox is looking a bit out of date now. There’s no Bluetooth and it seems unlikely there ever will be for example. I’ve done my own GUI for a fully touch sensitive DAP running Rockbox and the lack of features you can use is very frustrating. There’s no ability to “swipe” across to another screen for example. I think a modern DAP like the R1 wouldn’t benefit much from Rockbox particularly as it already has the MSEB and an equaliser.

I agree that the Fiio M3K did improve with Rockbox but that is basically a button based GUI with just the awkwardly designed centre swipe area.

I'm sick to death of the Bluetooth audio dropouts when using my R1 or my M300 with my Jabra Elite Active 4 earbuds or my Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2. Crazy how unreliable it is when my iPod Nano from well over a decade ago has perfect stability with both those devices.

Anyone got recommendations for a small, inexpensive Bluetooth dongle I can plug into the USB C on both of these players and transmit a stable Bluetooth signal out? Preferably one with as high resolution Codec as possible.

I'm thinking of trying one of these:
Really shouldn't have to add one, when both players have Bluetooth built on, but I really see no other option.

All suggestions gratefully received!
Too bad. I can only attest to the M300's Bluetooth which I've used steadily for 10 months. Mine is highly reliable using Soundcore Q35 headphones and A40 earphones, as well as a Bose Revolve II speaker which I use almost daily. I always use LDAC reliably with the Soundcores. I play my own digital collection about 80 percent of the time, and I stream Amazon Music using Wi-Fi the other 20% or so. My HiBy R3 Pro Saber has been as reliable with my own files for 3 years, though I use that one mostly in wired mode. I expected this Bluetooth reliability and certainly would have returned any or all of the devices otherwise.

I've never owned or used a dongle because I use DAPs --currently 2 HiBy DAPs. Good luck with your DAPs and earbuds.

To me, it is: Parametric EQ, Last FM support, updating the library does not block the whole OS, add to queue to make playlist of the fly, UI customization… I don’t really use the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi features on the R1, so RockBox would be a net positive to me.

EDIT: found out there is no support for Disc number tags. So you can add it to the list… seriously.:smile_phones:

I hope Hiby support employee is here and read this. So what tge heck? Why you cut Bluetooth and usb dac function on the R1? We all know it is hardware possible and you do this on higher price daps. I sold my Shanling m0s ( whichis cheaper and have this functions) to get R1. Now I closer and closer to leave Hiby devices 4 ever ( I have few, not only R1). Please try to hear your loyal customers or you gonna loose them.

Why you cut Bluetooth...
What's the problem with Bluetooth? I use Bluetooth on my R1 all the time and it's excellent. It covers my whole house and I don't get any drop outs and it's better than my Shanling M1s. I've now updated to 1.4 and I'm very pleased the R1. I'm not interested on the use of the USB DAC function so I can't comment on that.

No Bluetooth dac and no usb dac. I have a lot a gear 2 but I sometimes I want to use it as my smartphone companion ( youtube etc) and dont want to take my Bluetooth dac's + R1 in my pocket. Any Ingenic dap can do that but not R1. It is question of greed I believe. ( want extra functions so buy more expensive gear)
P.s overall I like R1 a lot but this artificial limitations...

Did you not research and learn what the R1 offers and what it does not before purchasing? Or did you buy blindly and pray all your needs would be fulfilled? And then you bitch to Hiby about options that are not there to fit your needs before confirming? I am just trying to understand where you are coming from and I am sure Hiby would appreciate the insight?
