Well good for you, it remains to be seen if the Error 13 is fixed as I can't upgrade, but I can assure you the problems are real. Obviously you don't use your R1 outside with BT much. Now I'm not saying other small Chinese daps do any better on BT because I haven't found any that perform like the Sony's.

But I mowed yesterday and it was a bit overcast and the R1 dropped BT signal at least 10 times if not more. Could be the weather that day and interference but it's bad performance in my book. And I had ldac set low. Anyways being a first adapter from this company it seems the software side has gotten worse from my original r3 way back when. And based on this experience I'll never buy another hyby. I did like original R5 I think that was a high mark for them.

My 2 cents. I've got an ibasso dx180 that actually performs very good on BT but I don't consider it pocketable. I mean my phone transmits flawlessly but I'd like something smaller for active use. I'm not an apple use so I could care less about ibud support. I'm using mems drivers.

The sound and screen are very good for the size.

I'm at a crossroads, as the two codecs for BT that I use have no dropouts, and connect seamless now (AAC and Aptx) but the latency and occasional popping somewhat do bother me. This is the best mini dap that I've had since the fiio m3k, which I'd still use if it had some bluetooth support without dongles. I'm glad the firmware files aren't big, if I do decide to downgrade it will be very easy.
(edit, screenshot attached didnt upload correct)

Sorry to hear you have had that hard if a time. I returned mine after 3 days of frustration and sold my R4 for the same.

Yep, I've spent way too much time trying to figure out the error 13 thing, and as I've said before it's been fixed before. I've tried multiple r1's , multiple micro sd cards, multiple settings, multiple formats, multiple resets, multiple firmwares. Etc. That I could live with, but now with this goofy BT problem, forget it. And I just don't want to bother with going back to 1.3 because for my use the BT is really spotty. So I'll use my Sony, and I think I'm going to get a refurbished nwa 55 just to not deal with android and have the better battery life than a306. That model was also very good on BT signal.

Anyways good luck.

Can't upgrade anyways, any idea when the OTA will be working again? Thank God I only use this for active use. Almost tempted to get a used nwa 55.

It seems more like the card in the R1 is corrupted, going from the above screenshots.

Wow, I mentioned in an earlier post that I just purchased an R1. Reading the recent posts, I'm wondering if I made a mistake. I use wired iems and my music will be on the R1. I will use it mainly on the go. Btw, it's replacing a Sony A55.

I don't think you will have much if any problems with your stated use case.

My R1 has never downloaded the update file, it has always been broken. This may be due to a bad wi-fi module. I always connect the device to my PC, download the update file and upload it to the device, disconnect the device and select "install from SD card" on R1 - my update is successfully installed.

I flashed 1.4 to test with my Sony SRS-NS7 Neckband speaker and.... nothing.... it pairs fine, but my best sounding speaker sounded like a dud, meaning there was silence.... so I flashed 1.3 back. Looks like they fixed the airpods and broke everything else.... well im sure those other bug fixes aint that big of a deal anyways. so there it is. if you use BT with anything other than airpods, stick with 1.3 for now. If you dont use BT at all, then maybe those new big fixes might be worthwhile.... I dont use BT a lot.... but there are occasions when I do find myself using it... so...... I'll wait for the next update. and all yall whiners who thought they slept on the R1 updates? I never had a doubt there would be a 1.4 and yall can be sure there will be a 1.5, but the question is when. grab some water and stay hydrated while yall wait.

Companies like hiby churn out these devices almost yearly, it's no surprise when the updates just suddenly stop. I can honestly understand people feeling like any update is the last, especially considering they have higher end daps that likely get more attention from them.. What should happen is when they plan to stop updating these devices, they allow the tools for the community to attempt fixing issues they leave. They aren't a big team, so allowing open modifying on the devices shouldn't be out of the question.
