it doesn’t mean the problem isn’t there for others.

Never said that.

Just do not like the approach: "if you have not experienced the problem" you are not using the R1 as intended".

No one is saying you’re using the R1 correctly or incorrectly. The discussion is about using it differently. If some users aren’t experiencing Error 13, it could be due to specific settings or usage patterns. Understanding those differences could help others replicate your setup and avoid the issue. This is about sharing insights, not criticism

I am fortunate to not have experienced Error 13. I have tried to duplicate what has been noted here and have not have it Pop up. There may be a difference in some of our settings that may cause or allow others to avoid it.

Can you post a picture of your settings so we can replicate them?

Would you please share these your settings -

- idle shutdown
- timer shutdown
- screensaver settings

and firmware version in use?

My guess is when something is On, it prevents a player to fall in standby mode, while the last one results in error 13.

Yes, have tried, and using idle shutdown mode prevents from switching to standby mode: have set idle to 10 min, turned screen off, paused, waited for five minutes, tried to resume - resuming does work as expected. So, standby mode is the root of Error 13.
@Joe Bloggs Are developers aware?

I own my R1 today.
No errors, but several issues.
1. Time zone UTC+1 is not working. No time adjusting +1. In my case, the clock is not set correctly (-1h for my time zone).
2. The player scanned all files without any problems, but I cannot find many files while scrolling through the database. Is there a database limitation (20.000) again in year 2024 / 2025? Really?
3. I cannot select an artist with all albums. I can play ONE album while selecting this album, but I cannot select the artist with all albums. There is no possibilty to select all albums of an artist. In addition. The player is playing ONE album although "play through folders" and "play trough all albums" is set and active. This is working in "album" mode, not in "artist mode". In "album" mode the player is playing the tracks of every album....
This behaviour is strange. I never saw a DAP with a good music player..... this is the next one with a cr.... music player. sorry @hiby!

Yeah I seem to be having a scan limit as well. I transfered 2000 files no issue, added another 6000 files and it does not see all. Will not add more till this is corrected. And I agree on the player, I was hoping for something that resembles the Hiby player I have in my other Daps.

1. Time zone. I have this problem as well. I thought for a while it ”fixed” itself, but no, it’s still there. I just set the time manually as a work around. A fairly minor issue, but also an indication that HiBy does seem to care about the details…

2. I have a library of ~13k tracks, and haven’t seen any issue. The HiBy scan function will ignore a track if it can’t figure out the tags properly. So, over the years, I have corrected 100’s of tags to address scanning issues on the various DAPs I’ve used (HiBy mainly, but also have a Shanling and a few Tempotec) as well as my home streaming server (LMS). I have yet to find a track where the scanning issue was not related to my file tags or some weird/unreadable embedded art work.
So from my experience, I won’t necessarily blame HiBy for these issues.
Oh and yes, there is probably a database size limit… I just don’t know what the limit is (number of tracks) for R1.

3. Not sure I fully understand your issue, but regardless, I don’t know how many times we need to complain about HiBy (lack of any) “logic” with their Artist / Album Artist / Album selection flow…
This has been F**#€£¥ UP on the R2-II, R3-II, Tempotec V3, and now R1and, apparently, has never been looked at by HiBy or even acknowledged as being in need of improvements. It seems that HiBy doesn’t care about their users actually trying to listen music with these DAPs…

I switched the SD card (taken from my R2II) with ~14.000 files and all tracks found. (I used a R2II before). I never had problems with all my DAP's to detect the files because of correct tagging / cover embedding (this is really important ->just simple tagging). The biggest issue is the file limitation and the poor music app (Sony, Hiby, FiiO etc. pp. ). Normally I prefer my own music app, but I like the form factor of R2 and R1). The R1 is quite enough for bicycle riding in combination with my tribit storm micro 2 BT speaker). For walking, I'm using my FiiO M11 plus with own music app and the FiiO M17 at home with own music app.

from hiby page
"Up to 2TB storage via Micro SD card slot" -> but NO information about file limitation! This is really poor @Hiby!

I may have spoken too soon. As of this morning, now I am experiencing the Error 13. I should have just kept my mouth shut.... :-) Though I will say this began after I did a Factory Reset.
