I'm looking for an upgrade/companion for my DT770 Pro 80ohms. I like how these sound, but the soundstage is too bunched up for some genres and everything gets muddled together, especially in music like this. Also, the mid range is a little too recessed, and the upper frequencies sound a bit rolled off. So I'm looking for a headphone with a wide, accurate and layered soundstage with good separation, and mostly neutral, with good extension on both ends of the spectrum (although I have the DT770s if I want a bass-heavy headphone so if the bass is a little rolled off that's okay too).

Right now I'm looking at the Q701, DT880 600ohm, and maybe Sennheiser HD600/650 if it's really worth the extra money.

I have a Fiio E17 right now, but I'll probably upgrade to an Objective 2 when I get the new cans and use my E17 as a DAC.

Which of these headphones do you guys think would be best suited for what I want?

Thanks for reading

I'm going to guess the Q701 (62-ohm) is going to be the easiest to drive with your Fiio E17.

Not necessarily. I know the K701s are very difficult to drive despite its low impedance. From what I know, it also needs to be paired with a suitable amp, not just one that can provide a lot of power.

however, I don't have the k701 or the dt880 so I can't really say much

Well I'll probably be getting an O2 with whatever headphone I get, so driving them isn't really an issue (although if they can be driven from my E17 without issue that's cool too).

Thanks for the responses

I've heard that the Q701 (62-Ohm) is easier to drive then the K701 & K702 (62-Ohm).
Not sure how well the E17 will do with 300-Ohm HD600/650 or 600-Ohm DT880.
My E11 only drives my 250-ohm headphones fairly decently.
I believe the E17 amp. and E11 amp. are about equal.

Any more input before I make my decision? Haven't found any other alternatives yet.

Definitely consider the he400. Great sound stage and very good bass for planar magnetic. Read the review in my signature for more details.

Well the HE400 looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. Is there anyone who's tried both the HE400 and Q701 and can compare the soundstages, especially layering and separation?

The Q's are incredibly comfortable. I have worn them for 4 hours straight and had forgotten I was even wearing them.
