Headphones With $450 Budget

I'd go for the amp first, as it will take the longest to get to you. As for the D7000, they are also a great choice, but they cost $999 and were for a short period for sale at 600, that's way over your budget and they aren't necessarily better than the Ultrasones. I, for one, preferred the pro 900s over the D7000. The pro 900s are great value, I talked to an Ultrasone dealer and he told me that the drivers alone cost just over $200 dollars to manufacture for a set and they are the same ones that you get in the Ultrasone edition 8, which cost just under $2000!!

I'ld have to agree with the Z1000s and as previously mentioned by earthpeople, these are really comfy Sony's that are really easy to drive and do scale up pretty well with a good DAC/AMP combo. Have been listening to the Z1000s out of my Mac Air headphone out for approximately 2 weeks prior and when i did take the plunge with the Centrance DACport, the increased clarity and oomph was amazing. I'm way happy with this interim combo now.

The Z1000s can be had for $400+ on the FS forums and i got my DACport brand new @ $400 with fast free international shipping from Centrance.

The z1000 are very new, so I'd wait until the deals improve. You can't go wrong with Pro 900s, as you're getting $600 (which is still a great deal) headphones for $320. I haven't listen to the z1000s, but I'm sure they are very good as well. It's just for the price, you really can't get anything better than the Pro 900, I mean they are often compared to D7000s which officially retail for 1,199.
It's your call though....

I'm actually pretty curious about the Pro 900s as well now that i've been over to the impressions thread. They do look really promising and if it's true that they use the same driver as the Ed. 8s, they look like an unbeatable deal either way!

The denon's will make you look silly walking to college. But will make you smile for home listening.

I would recommend using in-ears for when you are out and about and spending more money on a great set for home listening. Klipstch S4's are cheap, quality in-ears. Then you could go for the denon d2000's and fiio E7 amp/dac.

All within budget..

Well Simplicit already has a Emmeline P-51 amp, so getting a fiio E7 wouldn't really be an improvement.
As for finding a pair of Pro 900s, I just read on the appreciation thread that a member contacted the Ebay seller and he said that he'll have some in stock soon. by the way, that's the guy that is selling them for 320.

Doesn't exactly have to be portable.  But I plan to use them in different places.  I already have quality in ears LugBug1 but thanks for the suggestion :D.

I see. HD650s probably aren't for you then, they are totally open headphones. They also need a powerful amp that might not be achievable with your budget.

I dont think the Fiio line out is good, what i have now is
HD600 + Mogami 24awg x4 w/ Furutech 1/4 plug
Creative Sound Blaster USB DAC
Bravo V1 w/ EH6922 Tube
the whole set up i got custom cable for it, to ensure the sound
is not lost due to one of the cable is not as good

the RCA and headphone cable are all Mogami 24awg x4

total set up cost me $300 for HD600 brand new(i got a deal on eBay), $80 for the DAC which i bought long long long long time ago, and the tube amp is like $100 so about $500

Alright.  I'll look into different LODs.  Still waiting to see if I can get that Ultrasone Pro 900 deal.
