I just don't understand why nobody has taken the time or the guts to compare the HD800's to a truly worthy headphone. I'm not talking about those pretenders like the GS1000, HD650, K1000, K701/K702, STAX SR-007II or the Stax O2.The Koss Porta Pros have everything, deep rocking bass, lightning fast transients, and singing highs. Not to mention, they are the classiest headphones I've ever laid my eyes on.

I won't be repressed anymore. Jude can keep demoting my membership but I can't keep quiet about the subtle genius that Koss poured into the Porta Pros. I submit an open challenge to Head-fi to sit down and tell me that you truly believe that the HD800's even deserve to grace the same room as a pair of Porta Pros.

Also, don't forget that we need other threads to fully discuss the full line of Koss product in comparison with these so-called HD800's.

Hahaha hilarious.

But you know what? I've never been able to stand the Porta Pros as a decent pair of headphones. The bass is so strong that it makes everything else blurry and muddy. I used them on my digital piano and the normal piano became a mellow piano. I compared with the built in speakers of the piano and a pair of Shure SE210. I find that it really distorts for classical music. It's only suitable for R&B or techno or anything with a heavy beat.

You need to recable them and drive them with a proper balanced amplifier from a balanced source that uses a balanced DAC. I did an exhaustive comparison of balanced replacement cables from Equinox, Cardas, and AT&T Home Installed RJ11 but the vast right-wing headphone conspiracy has prevented me from posting the definitive guide to recabling your Koss Porta Pros.

Hey, the koss portapro is an excellent headphone. Nice sound for portable usage and everyone can easily afford it.

What really angers me here is that nobody who is posting in this thread has locked themselves in a dark studio for 10 hours and double blind tested between the HD800 and the PortaPro.

I did it, had a blindfolded assistant drive me blindfolded to the testing area, and mixed in 100 Bose Triports for a baseline of quality in testing.
