I do not know when they changed the plug. Here are a couple of pics of mine. I have had them about 6 months. Got them full price on Amazon.com.

The only difference is the cable and the plug.

They come in several different variants:
HD 25-1 II
HD 25 II - same as HD 25-1 II, but with 2 m steel cable, straight jack plug
HD 25-C II - same as 25-1 II, but with 3m coiled cable, straight jack plug
HD 25-13 II - same as 25-1 II, but with 600 ohm impedance, 3 m steel cable, straight jack plug

BTW, has any of the HD25-1 owners here tried these headphones with the Amperior microfibre pads? Really like the feel of those when I demoed the Amperior and would consider purchasing it, but I was wondering what the change in sound and isolation levels would be (I typically use stock vinyl pads).

All right thanks, looks like I have the HD 25 II for sure...there's no sennheiser logo on the left earcup...i had to coil up the end of the 2m cable for portable use but the headphones sound great so it's all good in the end.

thanks a lot for clearing it up!

I have the same version as you; HD 25 II. No logos on the earcups, but it says "HD 25 II 70 ohm" on the left one. I bought mine from a trusted, local dealer and I am 100 % sure that they are real.

I have cut off almost 1 meter of my cable and soldered on a right angled plug.

Microfibre? Probably some small decrease in isolation for sure similar to the velours.

Okay, so I got the HD600 cable connected to my HD25 II's and the
attack is slow and sound veiled compared to the HD25 II stock steel cable.

Will it change after some burn in?   Sorry if this question has already been
asked, but I couldn't find the answer.

HD600's cable sucks.  Stick to the stock cable.
Or build your own.

I just read some really exciting info about the HD 25 1-II.....

(copied from the Stefan Audio Art web site)

By simply removing the Sennheiser HD25 stock cable, sliding off each ear piece, turning then around and connecting an E-Series HD25 audiophile headphone cable you can turn these headphones in to one of the most perfectly balanced and rich sounding headphones available. This includes deep full bass, the wonderful "classic" Sennheiser midrange, perfect treble integration and nicely expanded soundstage. With the E-Series headphone cable the HD25's offer the sonic performance of a $1000.00 plus headphone. If fact, soundstage withstanding, the HD25's outperform many headphones costing 5 times the price.

Does anyone have any experience with this cable on the HD25 1-II?    I've tried the Stefan Audio Art cable on my HD650's a few years back and REALLY LIKED the way the cable made them sound.... the only thing is, I was just getting into Head-Fi at the time, so I felt like my limited experience excluded me from properly judging them.

I want to get these but the cable is too long! I don't need 5 feet of cable for a portable headphones. Anyone can link me to a tutorial on how to make a cable and/or where I can buy a shortened cable?
