Have you ever had a headphone that just immediately hit the spot?

AKG K1000's

No, it never happened to me with a new-bought headphone. With a bit of generosity the PortaPro may count as headphone with the cklicking factor, but that's on a less perfectionist level.

The R10 and particularly the Orpheus (edit: not to forget its little brother, the HE 60!) came closest to the real click when I auditioned them -- unfortunately I never owned them.

Nope. And considering that most of my headphones are bought brand-spankin-new...I wouldn't expect to be blown away by anything. But after a fair burn-in, I've been amazed by a few.

The only thing that can came really close to wow'ing me straight out of the box was the Shure E500. I was simply blown away by the depth of the bass and the clean high's with accurate mids. If you ever find "your perfect" IEM, the in-your-head sound can never be replicated by any open cans or speakers...NOT that it's a "better" sound, just that it's unique.

DT990 2k5 as compared to MS1. Hit the spot in every department.

For me the Shure E4Cs and the AKG K701s. Moreso the 701s.... The break in concept is nonsensical.

I think that audiophiles, by their very nature, tend not to ever be satisfied no matter how good the sound is. It can always be better. There's always that one step up from the model you have.

Having said that, I was very pleased with my HD-497s the moment I put them on. They didn't cost a lot, are very easy to drive and sound very acceptable (especially if the quality of the recording is good). Of course, I'd upgrade in a second if I could afford it (and someday might even though I can't).

GS1000 did not hit the spot immediately - that beauty needed some time to work its magic.
