From what I hear the O2 can power most thing's like magic but again I'm not sure you REALLY need it to enjoy the dt 990 pro. So get the can first, and yes the O2 Dac and Amp are very nice and I would personally like them my self... although I'm juggleing between spend $300 for the awesome O2 pair or w8ing to drop $700 for a Tube and a more versitle DAC... I'm an auddiophile so HECK might as well get em both LAWL >.>

The DAC you already have is fine. The ODAC would only be useful if you also use a laptop, or get interference noises with your sound card. Also, since the ODAC has only a USB input, you would lose the surround sound features of the Xonar.

Hey, I'm planning to purchase a pair of DT 770 Pro's. However, as I understand you should aim for the 250 Ohm version if the amp can handle it?
 
I have a Audioengine D1 (http://audioengineusa.com/Store/audioengine-d1-tech#.UKwWfIf8L3M). Which one will fit me best? 80 Ohm or 250 Ohm?

I like the sound of the DT770 Pro 250-Ohm a little better then the Pro 80-Ohm.

My $28 Fiio E6 can drive my DT770 Pro 250-Ohm earphones.
Can't see why a D1 could not do it better.

Really loving my new DT770Pro 80 Ohm. They're totally different than what people describe them as, at least to me. I expected a dry metallic sounding headphone with lots of bass, but I was, again, as every time until now, totally wrong. I gotta stop reading headphone reviews man, they're all wrong!  
I mean, the "lots of bass" thing is true, but they do it in a very refined way, not at all boomy. Its a very solid, subwoofer type bass. They dont have lifted mid-bass, thats as it should be, but sub bass is lifted up, and that gives the bass that feeling of weight, without making it sound muddy.  And I feel they sound very similar to my HD650's. Full mids, vocals sound fuller and more dense than on the DT880's, nice meaty bottom end, and smooth highs, slightly less present than on the DT880's. Surprisingly open sound as well, they don't sound any smaller than DT880 600 ohm to me, and they're more comfortable because ear cups are deeper, so it doesnt touch the ears.
 
Very good deal. Considering I payed 200$ for them, I'd say you cant beat that sound quality for less or same money, no way. And lets not even get into the build quality...

You always use an amp, otherwise you won't have any music at all to listen to.
The device you use for playing your music does have an amp, how small and cappy it may be.
 
Perhaps your question is regarding an external amp. That can help with better performance of the DT880, but if your source isn' that good to begn with, an external amp has little use.
