Best choice would be DT990. But not 600 ohm, because E9 wont drive it properly. 250ohms instead. If you use it for gaming, best would be getting a soundcard like Asus Xonar ST, which will sound better than E9 (with music too), and it will have dolby headphone for games.

But there are too much difference over 250ohm and 600ohm? It´s the same price.
Othert question, I saw that 880 is better than 990 ig games... today I have an AD700
If 600ohm is better, witch amp do you recommend?

I have an Asus DX that i heard that de DAC is similar than ST, isn´t it?

No , DX = CS4398 (cirus Logic) , ST = PCM1792A (BB , TI) .

But don't care about it . Focus on Amp .

The E9 drives it just fine. I compared the E9/E09K to my SA-31 which is about 9 times more powerful at 600ohms, and MUCH more powerful at lower ohms. The difference was minute, and the E9/E09K still did wonderfully. The only difference was the sound signature of the amps themselves, and not the ability to drive the headphone. The one reason why I'd advise against the E9/E09K is because the E9/E09K is a relatively uncolored amp, and doesn't smooth out the treble, making it not ideal for the peaky treble on the 990s.

In the case of the 250 or 600ohm, they're so similar, I'd just get whichever is cheaper at the time of buying it. The 600ohm is slightly better (even off the E9/E09K), but it's not worth choosing one over another because of that. Just choose the one that is cheapest and most logical in your setup. The 250ohm needs quite a bit less on the volume control compared to the 600ohm. So it'd be easier to use which lesser amps.

That´s a great guide Envy...
I´ve read the AD700, K701, Q701, DT880 e DT990 based on fun x competitive and that is I´m looking for to replace my AD700.

But you give me a doubt... Do I need to replace my current AD700? hehehhe
I usually play NBA games, Iracing (online racing game-very competitive) and RPGs if i play Football manager or civilization I listen music... sometimes BF3 but only for fun, but I like win so according your guide the 880s is better than 990 for me.

I don´t know if i´ll buy from US (cheaper) or UK but maybe I can´t buy an amp now (no budget) maybe february so If I buy 880 250ohm now and don´t buy an amp I will lost too much?
Any alternative for E9? I dont want rechargeble amp

Hi,

The CMOY is actually better than the Bravo if you have 250Ohm or over cans. It has a higher voltage swing while the Bravo has a lower voltage swing and is tuned for lower impedance headphones.

Thanks I've started looking at this amp now also

Dude I got a JDS Labs cMoy 2x9v rechargeable and the battery last me like 50 hours... and for $100 [which isn't that great I suppose tbh] still though

It should run me about as much as my Jds Portable cMoy cost ironically lol, but it's a desktop version! With a nice intro tube sound. And I'm sure I might roll it ... maybe e.e

You won't hear a difference between 250 ohm or 600 ohm. Trust me. As Zombie said in his descriptions, differences are very small.  And chances are, 250 ohm will sound BETTER because they will get all the power they need.  And as for DT880 vs DT990 in games, I dont see how can DT880's possibly be better. They are flat, cold, neutral sounding headphones, very "boring" sound signature.  DT990's on the other hand have more bass kick, which is good in games, more sparkle in highs, which is good again, and bigger and better soundstage, which is critical in games.

However, for games, I would not go for Beyers at all, unless you're really set on them.  I'd go for Sennheiser HD558 + Asus Xonar ST or even just the D2X.  You'll get far superior sound than with either of the Beyers paired with E9. Or you could go for E9 + a cheaper soundcard with Dolby headphone, like the Asus DX.  You NEED Dolby headphone for games. Once you try it, you'll never be able to play games without it. :p

Tkd for advices. I´ve already had a Xonar DX so I need an amp to "complete" my combo DAC/amp

Some difference between Pro and Premium?

I´ll research abou HD558

Difference between pro and premium is just the build and looks, and more clamping force with pro model.

The Ad700 and E9 are not a good match. The AD700 is low ohm and dry/bright. The E9 has a high output impedance that would alter the AD700 (due to them being less than 80ohm). Also, the E9 is also dry sounding and doesnt soften treble. I love the E9, but its not for low ohm headphones, and not a good match for the AD700 either way.

last doubt... if I need to save money. I will improve my sound on fly with E9+AD700?

Technically the Fiio E6 ($27.50) portable headphone amplifier, is a better choice for amplifying the ATH-AD700 over the Fiio E9 ($95).
As the Fiio E6's headphone output is low impedance (around 1-Ohm).
But the Fiio E9's 10-Ohm impedance is still a lot less then the Xonar DX's output impedance, thought to be around 100-Ohm.

I think spending $95 for a amplifier for the ATH-AD700 is not money well spend.

The O2 (Objective 2, $155) portable/desktop headphone amplifier comes with a low headphone output impedance of under 1-Ohm.
good for headphones from 16-Ohms to 600-Ohms, maybe try to find a used O2 for a good price.
