Just throwing another line in the water to see if anybody has preferred GS3000x EQ settings, I'm trying to like them, burning them in, and I just find them kind of thin and, frankly, boring, which is a first. I've SCOURED google, it's infuriating. Meanwhile, enjoying the RS1x, RS2e, and others big-time, generally without eq at all (except maybe the Hemp.) Maybe I'm just a peasant. I mean I know I'm a peasant, but maybe that's just all I am. Anyway, thanks.

What is your amp? From my experience the GS3000x is the most power hungry Grado. Hemp and RS1x I could easily drive with Piety. But 3000x requires something like A90 level.

I was also going to chime in, my GS300x is my daily driver and tried them on just about everything from the Grado RA1 right up to vintage McIntosh amps and in all cases I think it needs tubes in its chain somewhere to really bring it to life. Pure solid state just doesn’t do as well in a lot of cases unless it’s a really warm, tube-like SS amp like my Sony TA-ZH1ES. It’s really a chameleon phone though it will sound *different* on virtually everything, I can get it sounding sibilant like a cheese grater on some amps and beautifully, liquidity, velvety and lush on others which is probably why it earned my go-to spot for most listening.
Btw don’t interpret it as it sounds bad on solid state, like I said there’s exceptions to it all and some SS sound fantastic but I just think you’ll overcome the “boring” label with a nice tubey input.
I found some Grado pics from back in 2008. From left to right: GS1000, Gs1000 with Headamp, modded Alo Audio SR225, HP-2 (which I only had for one week)

I struggled to like them too. I was used to the smaller cups of the other models (gh2/gh4 etc). Especially after listening the hemp, the difference was difficult to overcome.
Now I have a tube amp in place I enjoy the GS3000x, the sound is so spacious and the bass is now great. TOTL headphone for me.

Well, as above, I have a Vail 3 arriving in a couple of days, but I'm really not interested in going higher than that, it's not worth it to me as I have other Grados I really enjoy that work well, a couple of them without amplification at all, and the others with the Ifi I already have, or surely with the Schiit when it arrives. I'm still within my return window, and maybe I'll just send it back and spend the money on some other treat. Thanks. Oh, and thanks to you as well, @Menkau-ra!

I really like the Schiit Midgard for Grado (I have a GS3000x with xlr4pin). It opens the soundstage and brings the music more forward with a bit extra bass).
Sorry for that misconception. Obviously we need to talk more often so I get my facts straight How about next year in Munich?
And while it’s a small collection each one was chosen very carefully. And is dearly loved.
From the current state GH2 / PS2000e / GS3000x / RS1x / PS500x I have a hard time deciding upon a useful extension that adds a different flavor… a small series PS2000x would be perfect, a GH5 maybe as well… out of the actually existing models I had a look at the GS1000x and the RS2x just yesterday. I think I'll take the GS1000x on loan next week.

Listening to my 3000x right now with the Vali 3 utilizing the Schiit supplied tube. I have several tubes that I like quite a bit more, but they sound tremendous right now as is. Best sounding Grado in my collection. I predict you'll enjoy the Vali 3, but whether or not it changes your sound impressions of the 3000x remains to be seen.
Listening to Disc 2 of "The Better Life".
Tracks, and recordings like these make my Grado's come alive.
Not only does it give me a nostalgic feeling, but moments like these is what makes life worth living.
It feels as if the concert was directly brought to my ears. Holy moly! Feels like I'm working whilst at a concert. INSANE!!!
Those interested in a PS2000x might want to take a look at the Grado shop right now… international shipping available.
A golden SR325 is also available, identical to the SR325x otherwise.
