No need for superhero ears to handle the F pads. Just give your Grado's headband a little stretch and be patient for a few weeks while the F pads get comfy. After that, you won't even feel them on your ears.
Even the Ls arent bad when worn in. My 325i have super worn in pads and I can't even feel them. The L pads on my rs1x are still breaking in, so I get a bit of pain after 2 hours.
I see that you have a 325 gold 50th Anniversary Edition if I´m not mistaken. When you have the chance you should try them with the nyczaj (former Shipibo) pads and tell me what you think of it.
After reading the latest threads and having a lazy Sunday
and a quick headphone waxing
I got my bag of grado pads out and listen to Folk singer by Muddy waters(sacd) on G,F and L(wife thinks I am cracking up) with the RSX-1
Definitely G for comfort but I do get the f pads being closer to the artist where as the G have more space
It is a great personal choice to have but I ended up back at the g pads.
Because Grado lovers like the warmer sound signature of the RS2e when they first came out. But funny thing, the HP sound changes with age as the wood around it dry up. So you never know when your grado might magically sound better a couple years later.
At least my RS2e is more “mature” sounding compared to before. My new Grado Hemp has good bass with bright highs since I got it to try out the x drivers. But the Hemp is still in break-in period and doesn’t sound as smooth as my aged RS2e.
Actually, the opposite was true. The RS1e sounded way too dark. It used a 50mm driver for the first time, along with the GS1000e and PS1000e. But the 50mm driver was tuned for G pads, not L pads. Also, the first production run of the RS1e (black headband) had the drivers sticking out of the cup, which reduced soundstage.
The dark tuning feeling is still there with the RS1x, which has kept the 50mm driver with L pad configuration. You can also force this tuning by using L pads on any model that was originally meant for G pads.
I can confirm that. The RS1X definitely sound meaty. They definitely have a certain euphonic warmth to them. Can't speak on the rs1e tho. But tbh, that's why I personally enjoy the RS1X. They're not as lean or shrill as the typical grado. It's nice that grado offers so much diversity in the line up. Idk that I would describe em as dark tho. They still have a ton of treble.
