“i” series added a thicker cable with a 1/4” plug according to Grado History
thread.
Thanks for the thread - which indicates the i series have a shorter cable (1.65m), something easy to measure for identification. My cable is slightly longer (1.75m from plug to splitter), so would likely be an original series GS1000.
On the other hand, the original GS1000 also had a 1/4" plug, so that's actually not a differentiating feature. And it's difficult to determine whether a cable is a thicker version or not, without having another reference to compare it with...
The original GS1000 uses a 4-conductor cable and the (i) uses an 8-conductor cable.
Thanks. I'd guess this would have to be observed at the solder pads, looking through the rear grid.
Hi. My Gs1000i. From 2009. I bought in 2014. Number on box says 30541.
Pics below.
Thanks. Was it built in 2014 or 2009? 30k units sold is a very nice result, looks like this was indeed a successful model.
I've tried to search for more information in the meantime as well.

GS1000 would only have been produced for a few months, until 2007? But it looks like the GS1000i started in 2009, not 2007, so there are more original GS1000 around.

So serial 6xxx was a pre-i model (same cable as the original GS1000) but already had i drivers? When were the i drivers actually introduced... is that the 2007 date mentioned in the other post?
Transitional models, upgrades/changes introduced without official communication aren't something surprising.
The plot thickens...
