My observation that 325e (F-pads) is more balanced than RS2e (F-pads) continues to prevail, specifically RS2e has too much lower treble. 325e bass does roll off earlier but its preferable to the overt treble presence. Tonally, RS2e reminds me of vintage SR60/80 which I did enjoy but over extended use became too much. 325e reminds me of PS500e but 325e is lower tier in resolution and bass extension.

Hopefully sometime in the future you can get your hands on the GH4, as it's slightly warmer than the RS2e, and was the final refinement of the e-series sound. Would like to hear your thoughts on it.

PS500e treble is closer to RS2x than RS2e. While PS500e has more bass than either. Have you heard PS500e or GH2? And can you share some comparison to GH4?

edit: My PS500e comparisons are from old memory and old notes, so extra unreliable. PS500e out on loan…

Last I heard a GH2 was in 2018 when Audio46 in NYC still had one for sale. Haven't been to fan meetup in a long while so there's no opportunity to try all of the rarer models.

The PS500e wasn't on my radar because I have never been a fan of Grado's metal models. The Grado booth at Toronto AudioFest 2022 didn't have the PS500e, but it had the PS2000e and I was shocked at how heavy it was (560g weighed with the scale I brought).

I was wondering whether my GS1000 (bought second hand a very long time ago) are the original version or the i version. On the cardboard box, the serial number is in the low 1xxx, so I'd guess it's the original version?
“i” series added a thicker cable with a 1/4” plug according to Grado History thread.

The original GS1000 uses a 4-conductor cable and the (i) uses an 8-conductor cable.

Where can these mods be purchased? I have a GH1 that I would like to revamp. That color of headband should work well with the maple and the metal gimbals are cool.

I have a full build from shipibo (now nyczaj) when they did wood cups as well. Still find the L-cush pads my favourite though.

Hi. My Gs1000i. From 2009. I bought in 2014. Number on box says 30541.

Thanks for the thread - which indicates the i series have a shorter cable (1.65m), something easy to measure for identification. My cable is slightly longer (1.75m from plug to splitter), so would likely be an original series GS1000.

On the other hand, the original GS1000 also had a 1/4" plug, so that's actually not a differentiating feature. And it's difficult to determine whether a cable is a thicker version or not, without having another reference to compare it with...

The original GS1000 uses a 4-conductor cable and the (i) uses an 8-conductor cable.
Thanks. I'd guess this would have to be observed at the solder pads, looking through the rear grid.

Thanks. Was it built in 2014 or 2009? 30k units sold is a very nice result, looks like this was indeed a successful model.

I've tried to search for more information in the meantime as well.

From this post: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/grado-fan-club.530965/post-17205667
GS1000 would only have been produced for a few months, until 2007? But it looks like the GS1000i started in 2009, not 2007, so there are more original GS1000 around.

From this post:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/grados-gs1000-or-gs1000i.640996/post-12202920
So serial 6xxx was a pre-i model (same cable as the original GS1000) but already had i drivers? When were the i drivers actually introduced... is that the 2007 date mentioned in the other post?
Transitional models, upgrades/changes introduced without official communication aren't something surprising.
The plot thickens...

hey, fake Grados on Ebay in Australia
That’s the downside of the rather simple construction: the outside impression is easy to replicate. And the strong brand makes it worthwhile…
