This is really do look slick with the silver gimbals. Are those the “classic” gimbals?
Those shown by CouryT are the aluminium satin ‘short’ gimbals:

One thing I notice with my Grados vs other overears is when I put my Grados on an external DAC and external AMP I can hear a loss of clarity. As opposed to just listening to my Grado off a 3.5mm jack that's on the source. I attribute this to lengthening the signal chain. Anyone else notice this?
I’d say that much depends on your external setup… but in general I’d expect an external setup to be better than the internal soundcard of even current MacBooks, which generally have good components and even support high impedance headphones.

The WH-1, "The White" - My most expensive and also "worst" Grado.

It has a weird sound signature. Indeed, Beatles recordings sound great with it. It also has the most pronounced mids of all the Grados i own *). But it has nearly no sub and low bass, but lots of upper bass which also sounds a kinda bloated. Treble is fine, but same here, the very high end of the treble is not very prominent, the lower treble is very noticeable though. And those fat mids accentuate voices, which is very nice.

All in all it sounds like my grandma's old "record player box" (you know those cupboards that have loudspeakers and a radio and a record player inside), quite cozy and like the 1970s. But this "lots of upper bass, lots of mids and lots of lower treble" doesn't work with every kind of music. As i said, i sounds great with the Beatles. It sounds great with Miles Davis or classical recordings. But for many things the sound kinda falls apart. Then it does not sound bad-bad but off and worse than my other Grados.

Maybe it's just i don't work well with G-pad Grados. I am also not so sure about my GS-1000i (but i like it more than the White)

It's nice to look at though! :)

Good from far but far from good, huh?

A full, luscious sound from GH4 - with excellent clarity, dynamics, impact, weight.

The Norwegian wood’s relative softness (650 on the Janka hardness rating scale) allows for chords & notes to linger just a bit. 🤗

Hi everyone, these are my RS1s purchased in 2009 if I remember correctly and unused in their box for 10 years. Since the end of 2021 I've started using them again and I currently drive them with a T+A HA200.

Lots of fans of the nyczaj hardware and the Turbulent Labs headbands. Has anyone tried the nyczaj headband, and if so, how does it compare to the Turbulent? The look quite similar.

I ask because the nyczaj bundle of pre-built headband and hardware looks like an easier way to go!

Easier in what way? My orders from Turbulent Labs have arrived - from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - in just over a week via FedEx. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Took a bit longer for me (in EU) - but those headbands are indeed very nice (too :dt880smile: )

Easier from a disassembly and reassemble perspective . I am not the most proficient at mechanical work.

@JerseyD , whether it be Nyczaj Audio or Turbulent Labs, replacing the headband still involves insertion of the core steel band into the new headband. This is the ‘trickiest’ part of the upgrade. [Keeping the new headband curved (letter C) during steel band insertion is key.]
