I kneaded / twisted / worked the braid on the cables in opposite directions for a minute or so each time I used the Grados early on. They can ‘uncoil’ … be patient.
Congratulations with you new Grados. Sorry if I have missed it, but when you are comparing the RS1x with the GS1000x, are you using the same pads? Otherwise, please try and give your evaluation.2nd day with the gs1000x
Burn-in continues with The Jackal soundtrack (1997) with my old burn-in setup (Meier corda rock ff) amp out of the d30pro.
Just a few notes:
Got a feeling that these are "all about layers and layering" they do it "better" in terms of separation/air than rs1x.
Layers are "peaking" and releasing details at every "peak" those "peaks" have certain "refined sharpness quality to them".
That full midrange energy/sound of the rs1x is "moved" on the gs1000x into the layers/soundstage to the "edges? of soundstage".
There is AIR not just between instruments but also between layers.
edit:
These are endgame obviously (for me) already.
The Reference Series headphone drivers are ‘voiced’ for F-cushions / L-cushions; the Statement Series headphone drivers are ‘voiced’ for G-cushions. Use of the same pads across Series may not be optimal.Congratulations with you new Grados. 100% agree with you.The Reference Series headphone drivers are ‘voiced’ for F-cushions / L-cushions; the Statement Series headphone drivers are ‘voiced’ for G-cushions. Use of the same pads across Series may not be optimal.
Detachable cable.Recently, I decided to mod my SR60x for a project in my engineering class and I felt it would be cool to post it. Yes, it looks like a piece of crap, but its really more of a prototype than an actual finished mod. If anyone has ideas on what I should do, I'd really appreciate it.
** I disagree !! Ideas: detachable headphone to amplifier cables, rewire inner driver cables with silver cables.Recently, I decided to mod my SR60x for a project in my engineering class and I felt it would be cool to post it. It's not Gray-do it's Gray dough. And John & family stick to Gray do.
Gotta find myself an eye clinic cause I'm struggling hard to find the crap part.Yes, it looks like a piece of crap
I thought I would buy some more hd414 pads and try them on the rs2e...sound good to me.If you enjoy the flats, perhaps consider the "Sennheiser hd414 reverse quarter mod".
Gives similar acoustic results in my opinion. The pads can be had for about £5 in the uk, so very cheap to give it a go, as all you need is a pair of scissors.
Also the yellow pads look cool (particularly on black plastic grados)
A pair I regret selling...
I bought an RS1x with the XLR termination. With one of these, from Audiophile Ninja, I can use RS1x in SE / TRS headphone amplifiers. Guess what? In those headphone amplifiers, the sound is more cohesive, more direct, more immediate than that of RS1x with the two-piece 3.5mm/6.3mm TRS termination. EDIT: for all the discussion (diatribe?) about Grado cable, don’t overlook the sometimes flimsy two-piece TRS termination.
