OK….whether it be Lyr 3, Mjolnir 2, Valhalla 2, I hear greater dynamic range, expansion and layering of soundstage with the high gain setting. This has been true for me with Grados from Hemp through PS2000e. [True for me also with Audeze LCD-X, Focal Clear, Gjallarhorn GH50 JM Edition, ZMF Atrium …]. It makes me wonder whether the low gain setting is an ‘accommodation’ to the use of sensitive IEMs.

You can add the Vali2++ to this list - I always have it on HIGH gain with my Grados.
I felt (and feel) the same about the HeadAmp GS-X mk2 gain settings, but was replied to by the HeadAmp Team saying "all the gain setting sound the same". Not to my ears.

It has been a Grado day … with hybrid h/p/a, with battery solid-state h/p/a, finally with tube h/p/a …

and with other headphones also?

Yes, all headphones. However, my other cans generally are reserved for the Milo.

That said, I decided I must have the ability to use Grado's with the Milo.... so my Milo is out in California with Jeff right now having Gain Cut switches installed :sunglasses:

No Grados! No Mas! 🤣

I've been giving the grado's a lot of love lately and they're giving it right back. 😁
The vintage RS-1 (button) is a very musical Headphone, yet still detailed enough for critical listening. I'm rolling with the F-cush (flats). I found them to be more impact full in the lower frequencies and have an overall pleasing sound signature to my preference. Thanks to @jonathan c for the F-cush recommendation.
I find the flats to be very comfortable and could wear them for hours.

If you enjoy the flats, perhaps consider the "Sennheiser hd414 reverse quarter mod".

Gives similar acoustic results in my opinion. The pads can be had for about £5 in the uk, so very cheap to give it a go, as all you need is a pair of scissors.

Also the yellow pads look cool (particularly on black plastic grados)

A pair I regret selling...

I’m sure someone must have mentioned this before.

But why doesn’t headfi have different threads for different Grado models?

I want to find specific info on a particular model, but have to wade through 4000 pages!!!

I mean why can’t a thread be dedicated to Hemp model, another for Rs1x for example?

It's easy to start a thread. Go ahead. It's quite Darwinian here. If it succeeds you will be hailed as an hero should be. If however it fails and withers only to die on the vine, then you must retreat to the west, only to be remembered in the sad laments of your kinfolk.

Been watching LoTR & GoT's too much...

I think it’s because so many people own multiple Grados and many questions apply to more than one model - so they would be posting the same question in multiple threads.

It might work to have a “Grado Pads” thread and an “Amps for Grados” thread.
