Can you get the 230V HP-A8C in Japan? Or do they only sell those in countries that uses 230V?
The 230V seem to be sold only in the countries that use 230V. I've only seen 100V in Japan & it seems US has 120V (or 110V?) versions.

So based on what I just read, we just change the power cable? That is awesome news.

Sadly I've sold my HP-A8 however I don't think I'd be gutsy enough to be the first to try this anyway :p.

I'm strongly interested in this gear and have some questions:
(1) Does SD card support some regular format music (such like wav, flac) rather than DSD?
(2) How about the quality of its USB input? I heard the sound quality is SD > SPDIF > USB, but not sure whether the USB is good enough.
(3) Does it work well with OS X? I have a HP-A3, I'd like to say its USB driver is too simple, i.e. fixed 96KHz sampling and no bit perfect.
(4) How about the background noise with IEM or sensitive headphones (e.g. Momentum)? So far, I hardly find a device to be quiet enough with my Momentum.

1. Only dsf and wav(after update firmware).
2. SD>USB>spdif
3. Work without driver, 32bit/192khz, dsd over pcm(after updatefirmware).. Support audirvana interger mode.
4. Dead silent, (tested using 334 n heir 4ai)

Can anyone in the confirm that this is the case? I'm (in the UK and) thinking of picking up an HP-A8 and I'm not sure if I should go out of my way to make sure I get a 230V version. Seems to be significantly cheaper to import one from Japan.

i can confirm:)  my unit was bought in Japan and was switched from 100 to 230v easily. the only problem is to open the case because the screw head is not common and you have to find corresponding screwdriver.

Is there some headphone pairing suggest with this DAC/AMP, besides the crazily expensive TH-900?

According to headfonia's discussion, the internal amp is very nice but not on par with the very best amps (such like Burson Audio Soloist), thus I guess the headphone selection may be somewhat limited. I'm currently using HD650 (known as difficult to drive well), but wondering whether Beyerdynamic T90 or DT-880 is more suitable for this it.

Allegroz, one more question to you:

What kind of USB cable do you use with HP-A8C? Is it sensitive to USB cable quality and does a very high quality USB cable significantly improve the sound quality? I heard some USB implementation is sensitive while some others don't.

I used standard cable ( similar to what you got from printer)..
HPA8 use asynchronous mode for usb dac, so the performance will be the same if you change the cable..
