But isn't this what was presented at the CanJams too? A universal version of N8.
I believe it was, yes, according to what I've read from others.
I posted this on the 64A thread, as well, but a couple of interesting bits with the Nio:
-9mm DD vs the more standard 10mm size
-introducing a new -10db apex module (called the "mX")
-also introducing a new case design
-and, as a nice offer, they are bundling their new SPC cable for free ($500 retail price) with the Nio for a limited time

does the custom N8 feature a 10mm driver?

Actually great question I just checked. It does not. It’s also 9mm.
The N8 is a pretty great IEM regardless, I’m certainly considering the Nio in all honesty. Will probably sell my Z1R to fund it and get an Andro 2020 or an Ara

Does anyone have any experience with both the N8 and the U12t? Judging from the signature description on the website it seems like they are going more towards the ‘rich’ and ‘warm’ signature of the N8 with the Nio instead of the more clinical u12t, keeping both relevant instead of making the other obsolete. Either way I think I’m going to jump on it.

It's a great price, I feel; certainly better than the one I paid for my Signature Design one. :unamused: Then, again, I did get to put my signature on it, so it is a limited-edition in-and-of-itself in a way....*he says as he tries to justify the extra grand he could've avoided spending*

As far as the acoustic sound chamber goes, if the AION is anything to go by, it should reduce the bright, brittle, 8kHz glare that's put off a lot of people (myself, included) from the Layla in the past. I'll have the one Naga Audio reshelled for me to compare it against. Of course, it won't be the fairest test given the different companies who made them, but it's a test nonetheless. I'm more so waiting on the 7-pin plug's future potential for DSP. Jerry Harvey's been dubbing it the future of IEMs as far back as his Google Talk in 2014, so it could potentially be a pretty big thing once it's actually implemented.
Can confirm the AION now has more comfortable treb, but the downsize is it will sound a little bit warmer/darker than OG Layla. But I could say it depends on taste. About the 7pin, JH is now sale its new 7-pin cable in Accesories for $150. You can order 1 then send it off to re-cable. Mine goes with satin audio.

Covered N8 vs U12t comparison a few years ago in my N8 review here.

I found the N8/Trio comparison more interesting-- it seems to confirm my suspicion that the N8 seems like a mid-point between the Tia Trio and Legend X.

So is the Nio suppose to be the rumoured K9? Doesn't seem anywhere close to "u12t with a DD" based on what's known so far. I do like the price point and the face plates though.

I don't think there was ever a good reason for thinking that it would be. All the best info right from the time it was known this was a thing has implied it was going to be a universal N8, which is exactly how it's panning out.
