I don't think there was ever a good reason for thinking that it would be. All the best info right from the time it was known this was a thing has implied it was going to be a universal N8, which is exactly how it's panning out.

If memory serves, the notion of the K9 (Nio) being a "U12t + DD" was just one person's opinion (and I believe this person heard the K9 demo at a show...again, if my memory serves me correctly...and while I've never been to show myself, I'm not sure they are the best environments to do a proper listen/comparison etc.).

Can confirm the AION now has more comfortable treb, but the downsize is it will sound a little bit warmer/darker than OG Layla. But I could say it depends on taste. About the 7pin, JH is now sale its new 7-pin cable in Accesories for $150. You can order 1 then send it off to re-cable. Mine goes with satin audio.

I’d pay 150$ to have them put a simple 2pin on one

Yes, it was just a wishful thinking of tiger ears @Vitaly2017 I mean, many people heard K9/Nio demo at CanJam NYC'20 and expressed what they think it was.

Now, after the announcement, we can see that N8 and Nio should be the same, though could have a variation in tuning.

Me too. I have some hi-end 2pin cables, and desperately want to pair with Aion. On the other size, 7pin is a tank. Hope JH explain more detail why did they go with 7pin beside of durability.

If this happened it would be my gateway drug to JH. Well truthfully it would be my gateway drug to a lot of oems that don't use 2 pin.... Cable rolling is a horrible addiction.
