flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

I've the a18 paired with 1960 2-wire cable to premium k-mod wm1z. All my other Totl daps and items are remaining unused for more than a year

Yes I couldn't remember if it was the 60 or 80 that paired so damn well with the A18t. Mus tg have been the 60. Damn fine combination and congrats on the setup.

Guys I've been silently content as of the past year or two with regard to audio and honestly focused on other ventures as well. I'v egot the A18t, venom, Hugo2 as my setup. I am looking to hear the Elysium soon and I currently have review units of the Wraith and Valkyrie. Are there other IEM's I need to hear from the past 1-5 years or so? Has anyone done a top of 2019 list or anything?

@pithyginger63 - if you can avoid the pricetag snobbery and the lack of custom model, the Astell & Kern Diana has just the sort of midrange / low end "meat" you are after in the sound. Once you get used to it, it's no slouch technically either - not quite at "TOTL" level, but at about 1/4 of the price of some of the cheaper flagship models these days, worth an audition if you can.
+1 for the Diana. I just picked up a pair and while the separation and imaging is not totl, the tonality and texture a quite unique. I haven't heard an iem with such fullness (body?) that doesn't have the bass drowning other frequencies. While the bass and lower mids are dominant, the upper mids and treble are well balanced and manage to cut through easily.

A18t with 1950 is the best I’ve heard - i tested mainly with classical music; full orchestrations and symphonies.

I much preferred the 50 to the 60.

They have some degree of fullness to them, but not prominently so. They're more neutral-natural in midrange timbre to my ears.

+1 on this, the midrange is clear and natural sounding, I wouldn’t describe them as full although it’s not thin either but rather balanced in that respect. Source could skew the scales a bit but even a fuller sounding unit won’t make the Fusion a FIBAE7 :p

Anyone here tried Spear Labs Triton 1? I guess mostly folks in HK right now as I don’t see any impressions outside of HK.

Early impressions indicate the Triton 1 can compete with TOTL universals like the Noir & Vision Ears Erlkonig. What’s interesting is the driver configuration of this thing is the same as Itsfit Lab Fusion. I wonder how these two compare...

are the mids full and rich on the itfits fusion
The midrange is probably the Fusion’s weakest point - not saying it is bad, but all the other aspects of the IEM as considerably better

It depends on just how far you want to upgrade - once you get to the 1000$+ cable upgrades you usually have both the DAP and the IEMs but feel like you want more

There’s nothing inherently wrong with purchasing high end items, every hobby is the same in that respect - my uncle spends hundreds and hundreds to drop 200 grams off his mountain bike - a glass of water less over breakfast would make that same difference lul
