I think the key point is if we know that a reviewer uses Apple dongle to review E5000, then we should stop reading, knowing they will complain about mushy, muddy, “bass bleed”, etc.

I just check to see what Cayin C9 is. Holy smoke it’s epic :dt880smile: Of course you have no problem with E5000.

Btw, I noticed that the frequency response of E5000 does not change at all between sources (measured myself). But the technical performance change is noticeable.

I am just curious to which device did you connect the apple dongle?

I read someone mentioned removing the back-grill of E3000 but by doing so loosing some subbass. I did the opposite and taped the back of E3000 and I think I liked it better this way. My reasoning for improved subbass is that such a small driver may not need much air flow to produce bass. Secondly by covering the vent, the sound is directed more towards the eardrum instead of being diffused, giving more focused sound (like E500 which I liked with some EQ) instead of an airy one which could be tiring for me. By the way the only iem I can use without EQ is E5000. What I am trying to do is making my E3000 sound more like the E5000. Finally my dry ear (little to no wax) could be responsible for my perception of treble in most items hot-piercing.) What do you think? Do I have some truth in my reasoning?

Yes I was the one who removed the back grill, and the sticker that was on it. Lost some bass impact over the whole range, but the treble texture was smoother and leading edge attack was smoother after this mod, as there was less resonance from the closed back side bouncing around the enclosure.

Thank you Dakanao yes it was your experimentation with the E3000 that led me try this. I think my preference is in the opposite direction because of my sensitivity to treble and desire for more subbass. If only E5000 had a softer and lighter cable like the one on E4000. It becomes rigid after some use especially in cold weather.

You could always use the E4000 cable instead? I mean that would be my preference aesthetically anyway if I had E5000 because I don't like blingy or braided shoe lace cables.

Yes that is what I was thinking. It is not urgent but I should find an E4000 cable selling online.

Anyone know if the same driver is used in the E4000 and E5000?
I have strong suspicion that E2000 all the way to E5000 have the same drivers, but the high-end models seem to be hand picked and paired. My E3000 has very bad channel balance, but E5000 is all good.

Is it a big difference between 3000 and 5000?
With the 4000 im getting tighter, weaker bass and slightly wider sound stage but other than that its mostly the same and still the same resolution and detail.

I think I read somewhere that the drivers are all the same but can't remember where I read it.

I think advertisement material is a sign. Final does not mention anything special about the driver of E4000 and E5000, still the same old high-performance micro drivers. The only thing they sing about is the bass chamber at the back. When we reach A series, Final wasted no time to brag about the new F-Core drivers (which are excellent drivers, butchered by the weird tuning choice of Final).
