Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

The E5000 needs a lot of juice in low-imp mode. Most portable DAPs don't do that. M0 will be very inadequate, same applies for the R3 Pro (though via balanced out you'll be less disappointed).

After nearly 2 years of going through various sources across various price points, the cheapest DAP that's fully complemented the sound of the E5000 was Cowon Plenue D2 via the 2.5mm out. Currently I'm using the Plenue R2 and it's the best pairing with the E5000 I've heard till date. Will post a detailed impression later. Other DAPs that had great pairing: Questyle QP1R (medium gain) had great dynamics but the bass would become too much at times. Cayin N6ii + E01 was the most lush pairing that didn't sacrifice details and still had fantastic bass control but it's TOTL level and a bit of overkill for an otherwise midrange IEM.

It's fun, V-shaped tuning. The Adagio II was too much bass for me, Adagio III fared better but I personally prefer the E3000 at that price range over both of them (or the Heaven II if you want more textured vocals).

Should I just buy the E4000 then to pair with my Shanling M0? Is it much different from E5000? I really want a cable-down type IEM.

Or are there other options?

Have you tried different tips, maybe some that seal without deep insertion?

I've tried the variety that it provides, but I've yet to switch the tips to the Comply's that I usually slap on for the best isolation. I'm still trying to just make my ear get used to the feeling of having the angle there, eventually I figure it's going to work out 🤣

Heheh! Yes, the shape is interesting. Strangely it fits me beautifully. The A8000 and the B series.

Anyone who owns B2 and has tried them with other cables? I’m just wondering if it is worth a try.
Ah, I'm waiting on a Null audio cable (fingers crossed they come soon!), and plan on swapping them. Can provide some experiences once I get it!

So I just put a large JVC Spiral Dot tip on my E500, thinking why not, I have multiple unused Spiral Dot tips laying around, and it would be the first time I'd try a true wide bore tip on them.

WOW what a surprise, that harsh unrefined texture with the stock tips is almost completely eliminated! This is what the hype was all about!

It's so natural, it competes with my much more expensive Aurisonics Rockets! Talk about a pleasant surprise

Hi! I just got back from a long hiatus. I have a Heaven VI with cable issues which I'm seriously considering to revive by having it reshelled. Reshelling it would probably cost me around $185 including the impression.

Thoughts?

Guys, is this front part with the grey and white circle of the E series you see on the right earpiece (on this picture) part of the driver, or is it the driver cover?

That’s the ear wax filter.

The Shanling M0 with E4000 is great, I have used it extensively. I can’t imagine the M0 not being able to drive the E5000 good enough, but the E4000 and E5000 scale well with a better source. One thing I found is that the cable on the E5000 is extremely microphonic and I could not use it cable down, while the E4000 are great cable down. It is an old one, but I reviewed both a while back: here

M0 can get the E5000 loud but it lacks dynamics and separation. I've found that on portable sources, going the balanced out on a fairly powerful DAP (the output from Hiby R3 Pro works decently well, got best results out of Cowon Plenue D2/R2) brings about the best results.

I've also swapped the stock cable for a custom 2.5mm cable from Electro-Acousti store. Working great thus far.

Is the E4000 equally power hungry as the e5000? Can a hiby r3pro drive it properly?
