For interest, how long did it take to scan the card? I did the same (a couple of times) and 20,000 songs AAC format takes about an hour and a half. Card is Integral 256gb U3 high speed card. For reference my Sony NW A45 scans the lot in a minute and a half!! I thought the M11 was supposed to be fast, this is epically slow...
This is one of many flaws of the Fiio Music App. I transfer files over WiFi using FX file manager and then use it to rescan media. It takes it seconds to rescan. If I rescan with Blackplayer, Neutron or Onkyo XF all take a little longer but still only a minute or two.

To be sure, scanning is tragically slow. I have some Sandisk 256 card. I think it takes about 1/2 hour, but don't really remember.

However.... scanning isn't the only tragically slow thing. Navigating those folders in the FiiO app is also horrible. I haven't quite figured it out though, because recently, with no system updates, some folders that used to take a long time to navigate are going faster. As if the FiiO app has been indexing things in the background. But that has nothing to do with an initial card scan after a DB reset.

Oh man, tragic?

That's the iBasso DX160
I said mine was troubled (freezing, no audio out of jacks) and get 3 zip files to reset device when it's obviously a borked unit.
Tragic waste of 2 hours of my life.
Now it gets to sit like a mute brick next to the M11 and new Shanling in a video. Tragic is owning an iBasso and having a problem. What a total disaster....an um...tragedy if you will. Wow.
5 years on Head-Fi and first DAP to go total bork.

Something is either wrong with your cards or your M11. Mine scans a 128GB card in about 3-4 minutes in FiiO Music, and folder navigation is super fast. Make sure your card is in slot 1 (if you’re only using 1 card) as slot 2 is speed limited for compatibility reasons.

Depending on how you have things setup the fiio app is pretty quick. I have 2 400gb sandisk cards with 24k files on them. When I add new stuff all I do is just scan the folder that I added too. Saves a lot of time as Fiio app remembers everything else and just adds the new stuff. Scan times are like a couple minutes then.
I have my folders setup genre/artist/album/songs.

On the flip, Neutron only tales a few seconds when I update list. It's uber fast.

Yeah, I'm in slot one, the more reliable slot, with just the one card. The 25k songs use about ~180 GB on the card.

The ~30 mins I'm talking about is after a FiiO app database reset and full scan. If you all are getting 4 minute scans with similar data, wow, ... just wow. Maybe it doesn't like my folder/file names or something. No idea, but mine is not quick. I'm not sure it's a full 30 minutes, but it's definitely not less than 15. It's a definite "go away and try not to look at it while it's updating" situation.

Or am I in slot one? I'm in what I thought was the more reliable slot, toward the bottom of unit hear the headphone jacks.

I have heard of weird issues with aac/m4a files before, if that’s what you’re mainly using. I don’t so can’t vouch for it, but I do recall some issues either on this or other forums.

I do have one folder with a bunch of AAC songs that won't play. I have looked at them on my computer, to the best of my knowledge they're valid AAC files, but the M11 won't play ANY of them. I haven't figured that one out yet.

Just try the other slot and see if it makes a difference. If it does, that’s your answer. As for the incompatible files, just convert them to flac if you want to play them on the M11, or load another media player to see if they play through that.
