Email says 4-8 days for just tuning and 3 weeks if I got the recabling, minus shipping time.
In terms of bass, the denons dare I say beat the LCDs. That would be the main aspect, but in other terms its mostly due to them being discontinued. And they are still great headphones.
Would coming from a pair of Denon D5000's to a pair of LCD 2's be a huge step up in sound quality? I've never heard a pair of open headphones and honestly don't see the appeal of them. I prefer a more intimate & "boxed" soundstage - that's the whole point of using hadphones, otherwise you might as well buy a speaker system I figure.
The Denon D5000's are not fully sealed, they're more semi open and the LCD 2's are not renowned for they're soundstage often being described as intimate. As to sound quality it's more a question of signature; the Denons lighter & brighter, the LCD's darker.
Speaking of which, is there any recent headphone that is semi-open like D2k/D5k with a similar quality of sound? I really miss my D2ks but I'm not paying $400 for a used pair.

I owned and a/b compared D5000 to D7000, later the D7000 to HE500 and HE500 to LCD-2. I slightly preferred D7000 to D5000, HE-500 were leagues better than D7000, LCD-2 edge out HE-500. So, by memory, direct comparisons and the law of transitivity, I'd say that LCD-2 are much, much better than D5000. Bass of D5000 is a little more one-toned, but goes much deeper in LCD-2. Planars' mids spank dynamics' imo and LCD-2 don't disappoint. I think they're much better in their overall signature and refinement.
I've been told the Mr Speaker Mad Dogs is quite close to the Denon sound.
They are closer to LCD-2, more so with new Alpha Pads, with Dog Pads MD were quite darker, now timbre wise they sound almost like brothers from the same mother, FQ response also looks pretty close.

Denons are more V-shaped vs. ruler flat response of orthos.
