Is there anyway to get D2k's that are new that aren't 500 bucks+?

Can't find them anywhere.

Hey I got a pair of D2K's a few days ago, new unused, but I decided to they weren't the best to bring them out with me when I'm traveling.  I already ordered some IEM instead in place of them.  I can sell them to you for $490, which is actually less than what I paid for them :frowning2:  Let me know.

I keep debating whether to MarkL mod the D5k or not due to worrying if I would loose the wood's resonance...

You could always start with a partial mod. Dampen the frame, but don't dampen the cups. The angle pads also help with soundstage and won't effect the woods resonance.
