I need some opinions on this. I have the D5000 and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm thinking about making the plunge for the D7000 but I was wondering if you guys thought it would be worth it with what I'm using it with. My main source is my iPod and my amp is a bithead. I don't plan on getting a better source or amp any time soon...so given that, will there be a somewhat noticeable difference if I upgrade?

I think you will ntocie the difference. I sold my D5000 and got the D7000 and never looked back. The D7000 is a more refined sound all around and it is also more efficient so you will need less power to drive it compared to the D5000 so you current set up will sound better.

If I'll be you I would go for the D7000 and also the JMoney earpads. IMO the improve the sound well worth past their cost. Going this way you will be all set up fo when ever you want to upgrade your amp.

Just my opinion.

I took the same path, and in the end, I am happier with the D7000.

Are the D7000 still available for $600 from J&R? I am getting the itchy fingers to pick up a pair...

Insert your index finger in between the metal part of the can and the pad itself. then put ur thumb on the outside of the pad, and squeeze the pad in between your thumb and index finger. While squeezing, turn the pad (I forget if its clockwise or counter).

Took me less than 20 seconds on each driver.

I lifted pad and poked at one of the brackets that held it in place and then twist counterclockwise. That seemed to work well since i keep feeling I was going to bend the plastic ring when prying it while turning =\

so I've done some reading on these phones and I was wondering about a couple things. How much more treble do these phones have compared to the D5000? I am a little sensitive to treble but I don't have any problems with the D5000's treble. Is the D7000 considered a bright phone?

I'm thinking about making the plunge to the D7000 but I want to make sure I don't end up with a phone that has a harsh treble.

I'm always mystified when people call any of these bright. Maybe they are coming from HD 650s.

I don't think the D2000/D5000 are bright at all. In fact, I think the D2000 is dark and the D5000 is at about neutral. So I take it you don't think the D7000 is that much brighter than its little brothers?

I would term it clear and crisp, but not bright. Also, a might bit recessed in the mids if you are looking at the D5000 vs the LA7000. The pad mod on the LA7000 widens them out and makes them not quite as "in your face" as the D5000s. The LA7000 is SUPERB, and I heard no flaws in it.

The only Flaw I could find was the PRICE!

This is with the LA7000, I have not heard it unmod'd.
