DX-1000 = Velvia 50 -1.5 EV

D7000 = Provia 100F 0 EV

Heh, sorry didn't notice the ED8 portion of the question.

But you did pick up my impression of the DX-1000 for sure.

Well I own dx-1000 and with little help of EQing(curving) its highlight it is pretty much like kodakchrome

also I find d5000 more contrasty than dx-1000

I'd prefer not to post that in the D7000 thread.

I'm sorry but I don't have the energy right now for the kind of detailed descriptions you asked for, all of which can definitely be found in this thread. I also can't speak to the question about using it from a receiver, since I never tried it, although in all likelihood that will work fine.

Thanks for your responses. I have read this thread in its entirety but there are surprisingly few detailed reviews and comparisons of this headphone. How would you describe its clarity, detail retrieval, instrument separation and soundstage?

OK, so take at least a little stab at this - I think the clarity is very good but not exceptional. Same with detail retrieval - neither of these parameters are the Denons top-most strong suit, although the D7000 are certainly still very good in this regard. Soundstage is among the best from a (nominally) close headphone, but still a little flat compared to the better open cans.

The D7000 for me is about an organic, rightness of sound. It's about a naturalness of presentation. It's not a headphone I would buy when looking primarily for things like detail retrieval (not saying that you were, just sayin'), in spite of the fact I think it's way above average in that regard - it's just not a T1 or HD800 in any of those ways.

I hope that helps - best I can do.

Nuforce HDP as an Amp/DAC, or uDAC feeding the Grahm Slee Solo SRG II, used ALO Amphora, or Woo WA6 with Sophia Princess 274B and RCA 6DE7.

I just want to say thank you everyone for help me decide to get the D7000. It's been 4 days since I received it through mail. I love this headphone !! Great soundstage, bass, mid, high, details are just perfect !! Also, it looks beautiful.. Not to mention how comfortable it is.. Only funny thing was the box of d7000 was heavier than the headphone itself.. Hahaha... thanks to everyone's help I found my perfect headphone.

X2
I too am wondering about a good amp/dac to pair with the D7000. I am looking at the Corda Opera + DAC, but am now wondering if that is the best choice at that price point. Are there other SS amps people can recommend?
