Perhaps bulky was also the wrong choice of words
The proportions (construction-wise) on some models are simply not right for 2023

Just got the K812 next to the Composer
What a monster the former is in comparison
But the K812 was 10 years ago
(For the future.....i don't always want to have to think in the high price segment......another one of these huge things for my head...we are now in 2024 and not in 2015 )

K812 is indeed bulky at the head, the screws of the cardan joint (well meant but out of place here, there are better solutions) tend to wander out. If the headphones fall apart and you find the screws straight away and the cable is not broken, it is a fiddly job to put them back together again. Unfortunately, the small plastic washers also get lost in the process, but it also works without them.
In addition, the slightly sharper edges of the pads (especially where they rest on the skin) also interfere with wearing comfort.

The E3 is quite large, yes. The cups are not that elegant in form, I like the Stealth much more in that regard. It’s tapered sides make for a more low profile look. They also fold better without stretching the headband too flat

Yes, but I don’t think a more compact form should still be possible at a price point of 2k. We‘re still not talking about cheap here, where single Cents count…

I went to my dealer today (again) to audition E3's again and compare against Aeon Noire's. My plan was to test them with Violectric DHA V226 since I wanted to test if the integrated DAC-module on that particular amp was any good. Well they had their V226 loaned out so that's that. They had V222 and V380 in house so I tested with V380 and then with V380 working as a dac/pre with RCA out to V222. To my surprise, latter combo sounded slightly more open and clear than the V380 alone. So that's what I used mostly for my ~30min listening session.

Anyway, E3 still sounded great. They're certainly more open sounding than Noire's. They're also more resolving and intimate sounding than Noire's. They better take you into the music. The resolution is simply said, insane. Also they have more low end in quantity and there's clearly more punch and weight to it. This time I wasn't sure if it's only a positive thing. When I cranked up the sound, with bass heavy tracks, it sounded like I had subwoofers taped on my ears. The bass is still perfectly in control and I've probably never heard such punch from headphones, but it's on the limit of getting slightly fatiguing. Aeon's also have great bass IMO but it doesn't make such a big number of itself. Also the highly resolving nature of E3's can be on the edge of getting fatiguing with certain material. Obviously this is something you can finetune with system matching.

Noire's were equipped with the default dummer cable and E3 with the VIVO balanced cable. I wanted to test how Noire's play with the balanced cable so for a short time I used them both with the same cable. The result was very surprising. The balanced cable took Noire's to a whole new level. Now the bass got stronger with better definition and punch and the soundstage opened up a little. Obviously E3 still sounded more open and bigger, but there's certainly benefits when changing to the balanced on Noire's. I didn't expect such a big difference. I have an audiophileninja balanced cable on the way but the shipping seems to take forever from US to Finland.

The price is still $1999.00 as far as I know and that is what the DCA website says

Funny, it does now! A bit ago, E3, Stealth, etc. were discounted. I wasn’t logged in, but I guess it was still showing the Club DCA price for some reason.

Thank you. This is a relatively honest review once you decode the “hifi reviewer“ speak. Still has the kiddie glove on but we are making progress.

Nice , very low key reviewrs give the genuine feels. There's a guy called Ryan Ho, knows his gear and places Shure 840a as one of the best headphones. I like hon because their my only headphone rn

The D8000 is too heavy for my tastes but our customers seem to like them

I’m a very happy owner of this headphone and I have to say that improving the headband makes the D-8000 far more comfortable. The ZMF crescent snap is absolutely awesome. Having a more plush and thicker headband allows the D-8000 to feel more ergonomically sound. The weight of the cups feels less present a better distributed. I never get one of those “dreaded hotspots.”
Also. The “Washi Pads” (type-H) are without a doubt the best and most comfortable pads for the D-8000. Makes a big difference.
Certainly the D-8000 doesn’t compete with the stealth and Expanse. Those are just on another level I think.
