i've noticed a problem recently with my J3.
it seems like there is something loose inside my player, as when i give it a small shake, i can hear something moving around. also, when i use the upper part of the touch screen, i hear a hollow sort of noise as if the screen is touching the loose part.
has anyone else had this same problem, and is there a way of opening the J3 so that it can be used again after putting it back together? i doubt that i will be able to return it as i bought it over 3 months ago.

Is it possible that the upper part of your screen is coming up?

Mine too..I don't bother, maybe it's the entire case of battery inside. Do anyone here tried to opened their unit and specify what that moving part is?

I know that you guys tend to like the Rearth Ringke silicone case for the J3, but I'm considering purchasing my J3 from Export Prive. From there, they only offer bundles with the J3 and it either comes with the Jelly Case or the Leather Case (both from Cowon).

If the price between the two doesn't matter ($30 difference), which case would you get? I might end up buying the Rearth Ringke case since there seems to be so many positive reviews for it but I was hoping to avoid covering up the device itself.

Thanks for any help/suggestions in advance.

No matter what you'll be covering up your device. The Ringke case is simply fantastic. It is not only tough, but covers the buttons as well.

Jelly case would likely be a joke, because it would likely be a cheap version of the Ringke.

Leather cases are nice, and I would probably go with that if Ringke case are out of the choices. The thing with leather that I don't like is that they are expensive and can be damaged by water.

If you just get the device and the Ringke you won't be disappointed, I promise you that. :)

Can you J3 owners enlighten me:

- does it recognize "album artist" tag? (Zune does this, iPod doesn't)

- in album view, does it sort albums according to artist? (Sony does this, Zune and iPod won't)

The reason I ask is I wanted to get an ipod but I hate how it handle compilations, not to mention ALAC. If I have 10 different artists in my collection and 2 compilations that have tracks from 20 artists, my artist list of 10 will be bumped up to a mighty 30 which made browsing much harder to have to go through all that mess. With Zune the compilations can simply be grouped under "various artist" in "album artist" tag. In Sony the album view would group the compilation together.

I need a player with good battery life and capacity that also sounds good. Zune and Clip+ fail in battery life, iPod fails in UI and Sony didn't make it for me in SQ. If Cowon won't work for me I am going Apple.

The Ringke case may look better or not than Cowon's Jelly case, depending on your tastes. If you want to see the design of the J3, at least the Jelly case is translucent. In terms of functionality, I've read at least one complaint that the Ringke covers too much of the front face (it covers the bezel almost completely), so it can be difficult to use your finger on the touch screen at the edges, in particular if you want to use the right slider to scroll. The Jelly case doesn't have this problem at all, since it leaves most of the bezel exposed.

Unfortunately, I've only had the opportunity to try the official Cowon Jelly and leather cases. The leather case has the advantage of protecting the screen or your screen protector, which neither the Ringke or the Jelly do. I didn't go with the leather case because of the extra bulk. With the Jelly case my J3 will comfortably fit in my trouser pocket, and its material also doesn't attract lint, unlike previous silicone cases I've owned. I have tried silicone cases that had anti-dust coatings, but the coatings usually wore off over time.

One negative about the clear, colourless Jelly case is that it seems to have yellowed slightly over time, though this isn't that noticeable with a black J3.

It depends on how you organize your album. You could just use the folder browsing option. I don't think the J3 supports albums sorted by album artist, like rockbox. I was able to do that on the ipod though using foobar to transfer files. :)

I use the Rinke case and Realook screen protector and couldn't be happier with it.

J3 (BBE) + RSA protector balanced + silver dragon IEM cable to a JH13pro. I've been listening to this rig for the past few days and I just don't think there is anything better. Just a happy head-fier. :)
