Are all the Comply tips the same and suitable for music?

I have been flying with them for years with my CEP's (Communication Ear Plugs), but I never thought to try fitting them to my Etymotic ER-6i's.

The foam tips that came with my ER-6i's are very similar to the Comply tips in look, feel, and fit. The biggest difference is that the CEP's have a threaded shaft and the tips screw on vs. the smooth shaft of the ER's where you simply slide the tips on.

The tacky/grippy texture of the foam really helps them seal against the ear canal walls and sets them apart from most foam plugs I've worn. I like them a lot.

Our tips are fantastic for music! You can check our website (complyfoam.com) to see if your earphones are compatible with our tips. Use the orange "Shop Foam Tips" button on the top, find your brand, and see if we have your earphones listed as compatible. If you don't see your earphones, either we haven't tested them yet or they are not compatible. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.

Comply tips series T.

Background.

I sometimes work in a noisy environment be it computer noise or other electronic/mechanical equipment. Thus, I have to use headphones that block noise. I have a set of  NuForce NE 6 and a set of Shure 530 SE.

The NuForce had a set of silicone earbuds and they never fitted me quite right. They made me feel like one ear channel was bigger than the other (which might be true).

With the Shure 530 I always used the black Olives (medium size). They fit just right and gave me my favorite sound signature once sealed. Sadly, I only have pair of the Olives.

Thus, at least I needed something for the NuForce. Cue to Comply Foam tips.

Navigating the new Comply website made it a breeze to check for the compatible foam tips for the NuForce and order those. The arrived two or three days later. The first thing I noticed was the package. It is so convenient to have a reusable container for your 3 sets of foam tips! That speaks of a well thought product!

Since I question I have seen posted several times (even by myself) is that of the size of the Comply medium size compared to the olives (medium) here is pic.

From left to right: Small black olives, medium Comply T-100, medium Comply T-400 and medium black olives.

It would seem that the medium Comply Ts are somewhat in between small and medium olives. From my experience using them I can say that this is misleading. Let me elaborate.

When I use small olives with my Shure I get a decent seal but it is not as firm (even bass proof if you will) as what I get with the medium olives. For me, that sets the “standard”. When i were the Comply Ts I get a more firm feeling for the seal (compared to small olives) and a very similar sound to that of the medium olives.

It is true that once compressed Comply tips expand more slowly than the olives. I prefer it that way since I have found out that if I hurry the seal I can push the olives to far into my ear and cause discomfort in a short-medium term (2-4 hours use). When I take my time getting a good seal I can wear them for 4-6 with any discomfort. This is easily achieved with Comply foams. This is my reason for not trying the P series.

I have to point out that I also went for the Ts due to the colors. They are a nice touch even if it is not a must. I would like to have orange tips but the blue goes well with my NuForce.

I have had these tips for a month now and I can say that I am very satisfied. The on;y downside I can point out is that my red tips are slowly discoloring. Nothing deal breaking but it happens nonetheless.

I won't get into details about the sound signature or effect on bass because that varies from listener to listener and because I was mostly interested in a good seal and great comfort. Those two can be found on the Comply T-series foam tips.

I hope this helps anyone looking into using Comply foam tips.

Yeah! That's what are shooting for. It's good to see people appreciating the hard work we put in to our product and the way we present it.
Thanks for adding your own thoughts to the review

It appears Comply doesn't make a tip for the Etymotic Research ER-6i (although strangely enough, you do have one for the ER-6).

Anyways I brought my ER-6i's to work yesterday and was able to nicely fit a threaded Comply CEP tip onto my ER-6i's. Although the ER-6i shaft is smooth, there is a little lip at the end where the filter inserts and this made a nice tight attachment to the threads.

From the photos of the "audio" (T series) Comply tips, they appear to be shorter than the CEP tips. I prefer the longer length of the CEP tips, so I'll do some comparative listening today to see how they sound.

Be careful with the ER-6i. Our engineers found that a piece of the earphone could be easily removed when taking our tips off. I think it was the built-in wax-guard or detachable sound port, I can't remember exactly. We labeled it Not Approved because it's possible to damage the earphone when removing our tips, regardless of whether it fit or not. So heads up about that.

Got it. I read your PM before coming here.

I'm not sure because I've never seen the 6, but maybe the difference is the 6 doesn't have the filter and the 6i does. That would explain a lot regarding the difference in freq response between the two.

For what it's worth, the 6i's filter is meant to be removed and replaced by the user (the headphones actually come with a replacement filter and removal tool).

Nevertheless, it is a tight fit. I will be careful and not use the CEP tips with them.

Thanks

Ok, so I finally got my T-500s in today for my Munitios (they fit!).

But I have to say...they make the music exceptionally dark and veiled. The Tek9s are already a pretty dark IEM and incredibly bassy (seriously, bassier than most full-size headphones I've heard), and the Comply tips accentuate it. The Tek9s communicate a surprising amount of detail once you get used to the very bass-heavy texture, and I feel like I've lost a fair amount of that detail.  There's always been a weird trough in the higher frequencies, but certain female voices that fall just on either side of it (like Rachel from Glee or the Haylee Williams from Paramore) sound very pleasing with the stock tips.  They've lost a lot of their definition and whatever it was about them that made them pleasant to listen to.  :/

I'm not trying to do a review or anything, and my criticisms have to be taken for what they are...Regardless of the impact on sound, I'm going to end up keeping these for flights and whatnot, because they are so freaking comfortable.  Maybe I'll try cutting them down and see if that frees up the highs a little.

Hello All, I am new to this forum.  Just picked up some MDT's and got the Comply tips in today and wow lemme say they are comfortable.  I am gonna try that dual color for the right and left idea- sounds like a winner.

The comply tips sound so much better with the tips trimmed, before I think the memory foam got compacted which restricted the sound flow from the phones.

Now how about a new coupon code!!

Thanks to the forum this place rocks.

I've recently purchased the Ts (sphericals) They are so nice, similar to olives, but with much better balance. No need for cutting as it is very close to stem. Perfectly designed, best Comply's. Just wondering why we can;t buy Qty 5 anymore, just 3.

Rad. We're hearing some very awesome things about the Ts-Series. Thanks for adding another pat on the back!
We're are in a limited trial phase with the Ts-Series to see if people like them and to track how well they sell. That is why we only offer certain sizes, quantities right now. This is no official message, but I think that will change sooner than later.
