Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

I’m still enjoying E02, but it’s the skipping at the start of songs that I’m finding difficult to deal with.

any news about the update of the filter issues ?

Yeah also wondering the same thing. Looks like it‘s gonna take a while :unamused:

We have submitted the new firmware to Qualcomm already, waiting for an OTA timeslot, hopefully we can officially release the new firmware by tomorrow.

This round of bug fix is equivalent to patch up 4 DAP at the same time. There is a lot of cross-checking because anything involve digital filter control will affect MQA decoding. With N6ii, we have to ensure we have fixed the bug in all FOUR audio motherboards, and the MQA performance of all four motherboard is not affected. You have no idea how frustrated it is when we fixed the bug on all four Audio Motherboard, and the MQA of three audio motherboards are fine, but then we run into problem with the MQA response time of the last Audio Motherboard.

Thanks. I’m not sure that would apply to me then as I only use Tidal direct from its app. But I’ll check it just in case.

Sorry, I didn't aware your problem is related to Tidal only. When you said (HERE) "the skipping occurs when the playlist switches from 352.8KHz and 384kHz tracks to 44.1kHz tracks, but it doesn’t happen when I switch from 44.1khz to 352.8kHz or 384kHz. " I assume that was local music files. So the skipping happens when you switch from 8x MQA to non-MQA on Tidal, but it won't happen when you switch from non-MQA to 8X MQA?

We have to narrow down whether this is a Tidal app problem or MQA decoding problem. can you download several MQA files and standard CD files from 2L test bench and try to stimulate your playlist pattern with local music files. If the problem remain unchanged, then this is probably related to MQA response time. If the problem didn't recur on local music, then the problem maybe related to Tidal App.

i will give it a try (E01).

i have yet to cycle through the various modules.

i will probably use this one for a bit first with some IEMs and headphones to get a bassline to start from then start module rolling.

Module rolling? This is new, I know we all do that, but we tends to describe it as swapping instead of rolling.

Anyway, looking forward to find out more mix and match impression from you. :beerchug:

My N6ii do not working at all. I have received the new unit wit stock fw EN1.18 and it was working properly until I decided to charge it. After charging, player do not respond on any combination of Buttons press. I have read all previous post suggestions, but unfortunately the unit only shows black screen without any logo.

That is second N6ii, that I have received by sellers warranty. The first one was charged by same charger - it is ok. I have tried another charger and another cable - all is ok with charging. Player is charging properly, problem actually not charging process but boot Android OS, when I try to switch on. I am not a newbie with N6ii, because first unit I have been using more that 1 year and well know how to handle that. I started reading this thread just from the first post, when recognized N6ii as a candidate for purchase. But my second unit has a huge problem :frowning2:.

Have you contact your dealer? If the problem appears at the first charge cycle, then this can be a hardware problem. Did you receive an open box item as your second N6ii?

@Andykong
Hello, do you have any detailed information on A02? When it will be released and what would be a recommended retail price? Thanks.
Sorry if I missed this info in this thread...

I have had a look at the 2L test bench and do not know how to get tracks onto my computer.

However, I have some music on an SD card (in 44.1kHz from my iTunes) and listened local via the cayin music app. The skipping problem happens here also. I have a few tracks I’ve just tested it with on this SD card and the tracks have definitive parts at the very start of the song that I can definitely tell that the first second or so doesn’t play.

Even though these tracks are at 44.1kHz a similar thing happens to what I mentioned before. If you just click on a song to play, you can get skipping. But if the song is played in a succession of other songs in the playlist then it doesn’t skip. As before though this skipping doesn’t seem to happen every single time. It is perhaps 60% of the time.

So this skipping issue happens on Tidal streaming, on Tidal offline and from an SD card.

Is this for N6ii or is it a stand alone?

This is standalone portable dual tube fully balanced amp. I'm just saying, with A02 card which has LO only, this will be a great pair up since so many people were asking about DAC/amp card with a tube. But, this is something that can be used with any source, just a standalone portable amp.

Holly cow...I hoped that this is an upgrade for the A01...Does anyone need it? Interesting approch..

maybe a03 ... :p
I wonder what was driving a decision to make a pure line out module? Multiple user requests? Deep market research?
I sold my cayin n6II for a certain reason in May. Now I hear that they come up with the A02 - It is time to return (I thought)...to purchase a brand new n6ii with A02 as soon as it is available...and now I understand that this just a pure source...I have a dedicated DAC at home.

Since the cat's out of the bag, I might as well provide a bit more information. :beerchug:

The A02 will be a line out and pre-out Audio Motherboard, no headphone output. A high quality desktop-grade line out is straightforward, we done that many times in DAPs, the pre-out is the innovation. The A02 will allow you to use the N6ii as source to a lot of analogue power amplifiers. You can use the line out to connect the N6ii to integrated amplifier and headphone amplifier, or use the pre-out to connect the N6ii to active speakers or power amp. of speaker based audio system. Since the input impedance of solid state and vacuum tube amplifiers varied significantly, we decided to extend the R&D by 1 month to conduct more tests, to make sure the pre-out can work with a larger variety of power amplifier satisfactory. Our tentative schedule was to launch the A02 on August 2020, but now you need to wait till September.

Just a quick update on the A02, and I'll provide a full description with specification tomorrow.
  • The A02 Audio Motherboard does not have headphone output, it won't drive your headphone or IEM.
  • Shared line out and pre out (selectable by pull down menu) on both 3.5mm single end connector and 4.4mm balanced connector
  • The A02 transform the N6ii into a high quality analog source to portable headphone amplifier, integrated amp. or power amp. of home audio system and active studio monitors.
  • The digital section of A02 is based on two pieces of AK4497 DAC chipset, the decoding capability is similar to A01 but when operated in mono mode, the DAC offers better dynamic and S/N performance.
  • A02 is probably the first portable DAP that offers pre-amp output
  • The A02 offers choice of LPF filter, this will offer two different sound signature to both line out and pre-out mode
  • In view of specialised function, the A02 aims at a very niche market, we'll only commit one production batch of 500 units.
  • The suggested retail price of A02 is US$419.
