Right out of the box (with 0 hours), the HD800s obliterated any headphone I had heard/owned (except for the T1) with regards to sound stage. The volume of the bass is bang on neutral...sorry, burn in doesn't really help much with this regard. The T1 is on the punchier side of neutral and I do prefer that as well.

I found the DT880s to be the punchiest of the three and I would classify that as coloured...but that's cool too (I really like that kind of bass to at times too).

I also agree with your findings on comfort...they are the two most comfortable headphones I've ever had on my head, closely followed by the T1.

Based on you comment of wanting a slightly more musical and slightly less detailed headphone, to me anyway, the T1 seems like a very logical choice.

I was surprised too indeed, and I don't really understand what happend with the soundstage but I checked several times to be sure of what I was hearing and it was a bit narrower, curiously, though not by far. Maybe the amp has something to do with that, I don't know, even if I don't see how it could be that way.

You do really find that the DT 880 is the punchiest of the 3 between HD 800, T1 and DT 880 regarding to the bass? I read that T1 is more bassy than the DT 880, and that it has more bass, something like the DT 770.

Anyway, it seems like that T1 would really suits me like you also concluded.

I am not saying that the T1 sound bad or can not be driven correctly by my big RP010B or even the GS-1. They actually sound great. It just got my attention that the volume know needs to be turned up about 25% to 30% higher compared to my other headphones.

I bet in balanced mode receiving double to power from the RP010B they will sound even better.

But if you know (or think) that there is something out there better...it's the curse we bare....I'm thinking of a Blue Dragon cable upgrade to my HD800 even though I am entirely happy with the stock cable.

I hear you....
Now that is clear the stock cable has 3 wire for each side I am going to take a look tomorrow at re-terminate it with a pair of Cryo Treated Vampire Wire XLR connectors that I have on hand.

After seeing how they sound balanced will make the decision to re-cable or not.

MacedonianHero, contact SteveM324 about the HD800 with the Blue Dragon cable. He has them like that and can probably give you his opinion.

I've owned 3 different 880s (2003, 2005, 600Ohm Manuf.) and i found neither of them very punchy, the pre-2003 version probably being the most punchy of the bunch.

I had 2003 dt880, sold it and got 2005/600 ohm.........and sold it. .......took the Headphile road for both Beyer and Grado. Today, the only new headphone on the market that interests me is BEYER T1.

There has never been a DT880 I would define as "punchy".

Don't worry about that! My Corda Symphony needs a 2-5 o'clock setting (in low-gain mode) with the HD 800 and sounds excellent that way. High load impedance means high voltage, but the relatively low currents produce relatively low harmonic distortion. So don't care about the volume-knob setting!

X3 Agree

Even HD800 is more punchy than DT880 with right amp.

How do you think the T1 will do for gaming?

I was going to get the DT880/600 this month but I am tempted to sell all my gear for the T1 and a new amp.

Maybe it's sound strange, but i always believe beyer wanna to offer some "real fast sound" between typical "dynamics sound" and "electrostatic sound" , it's not simply the "try and error "musicality like Grado, but depend on very, very strong technology background.Silibant, recessed mid, and overwhelm upper-bass is the sign of diaphragm not been proper control, not the real house sound of beyer. I believe those owner of 600ohms beyers would think so,too.

My pair arrived yesterday. #1212
dt880smile.png

Straight out of the box, they sound amazing. Not quite as comfortable as the 880's because the earpads aren't as cushy, but still really really nice fit. The other thing I noticed, I think because the drivers are mounted at an angle, the depth and balance of the soundstage can be tweaked with careful positioning of the ear cups - more so than any other headphone I've tried. When you get it right, the soundstage is truly amazing. They come in a really nice aluminum case - somehow I missed that on the website. It was a pleasant surprise.

Well, the left and right hand channel cable pairs are individually shielded with the stock SOMMER CABLE - SC-PEACOCK MKII, so you could argue less "crosstalk". Personally I wouldn't worry about using / re-cabling with a 4 wire cable, especially if you're running single-ended.

Agreed. The stock cable is quite nice, and the neutrik jack is entirely adequate, in my opinion.

I just wanted to say that I just finished listening to Metallica`s Death Magnetic with my T1s...and all I have to say is W-O-W!
beyersmile.png

I`ve had them now for 2 months and they initial `buyer`s glee` has come and gone, but nonetheless these cans have never stopped impressing me!

It is amazing just how well they work with jazz, classical and Metallica! They are incredibly fast (unlike the slower DT880 bass) and just sound incredible!

For those waiting for your T1s, let me just say, it is well worth the wait and boy are they worth it.
