beyerdynamic T5p: Photos and first impressions.

I've never heard one myself, but I bet that would be a solid pairing at the least... I read a number of reviews of the first generation, and as long as you weren't driving power-hungry orthos with it, it seemed to get great reviews. If you end up demoing or buying one, definitely let us know what you think!!

There are few places that hold higher end products in the city im from here in canada(vancouver, bc) to demo such kinds of gear. Ive had to take chances with most of my stuff like my cl1b compressor, apogee symphony io, and my neve 1073, hell even my u87 microphone. Even the t5p i had to take a chance on. There are two main music stores here, tom lee music, and long and mcquade. They were able to bring a hd800 and the hd800 amp and the akg k812 but no beyerdynamic flagships :(
I think my headphone outs sound extremely transparent and dynamic but compared to an external hp amp i wouldnt know. I guess the only way is to buy one and take the hit and sell a bit less if it doesnt really help out my current set up

Are there any meets nearby you might be able to attend? The best opportunities I've had to listen to high-end amps have been at meets, because I don't really have anywhere near me either.

Well, you're welcome to come down to join us in Nashville on September 20th if you'd like! Although I realize it's not the most convenient location to you...

Thanks, I wish I lived close by. I would be there in a heartbeat. The westcoast always gets things last, especially in Canada. errg :(

I hear ya man. Good luck ;)

I'm not great at soldering.  Would anyone be willing to drop a 4 pin XLR on my T5p for something fairly reasonable?  I'm just thinking a cheap Neutrik.  I unscrew the cable connector and see everything visible, and I think it would only take a handful of minutes for someone who is experienced.  Thanks for considering!

Some shops that sell instruments and studio equipment have a workshop that does repairs, make custom cables etc. A local shop may do it for you.

A local shop made me a set of XLR crossed cables for connecting equipment using the two different XLR pin standards, typically to connect my STAX SRM-007t to (most) other units. They did it while I was waiting and the price was reasonable when/since I bought the cables etc. from the shop. They even had a cable tester to verify the work.

That's a good thought.  I'll try a pro audio store.  Anyone here interested in doing this instead?

If I tried, it would probably end up resulting in my apartment building burning to the ground. I'm not exactly what you'd call "handy."

Another option (and what I do when I need the kind of work you're looking for) is get one of the cable guys around HF to do the work. Brian at BTG Audio is probably the least expensive, and he does really good work. There are other great ones too (Steve at Q-Audio, Trevor at Norne, etc), but they are generally a few bucks more. Just a thought!

Great idea. I figured someone here would work, but I didn't know how to find them.

I spend the past week listening exclusively to T5p. I think the brain burnin is a very important factor, I can say I am contempt with the stock T5p sound. Glad I did not sold it. It pairs remarkably good with the calyx M.

No problem! Holla if you have any other questions or difficulty finding contact info. Lots of good guys around here to work with IMO.

For whatever reason, the T5p seems to take longer for my brain to acclimate than pretty much all my other headphones. I have to listen to them for a few minutes before I adjust and can really enjoy how ludicrously good they sound. (I think it's due to the relative dearth of bass compared to my other cans, but that's just a guess).

Haha...so true.

I was about to throw my pair out the window when I first put them on my head - I kept comparing them to the T1 it replaced.  It took around two months for me to really like this model.   I would never sell my T5p now.    When it gets noisy, the T5p is my go-to headphone.
