You can buy JUST pads from the Beyer site.

I tried once to wash the velour earpads in the washing machine - bad idea. Try very mild soap and water, by hand.

Washing the velour pads? Should be no problem. Just wash/dried mine (put them inside my jean's pockets), they came out fine. They smell good too

But if a good wash doesn't clean 'em well enough, finding a new pair would be tough, 'specially in Malaysia... best to WTB it, I'd think.

thanks for the input guys....

i guess ill try lon420's method. i had the same thought as well... i.e putting them into something to protect them and shoving them into the machine.

if it doesnt go well... i guess ill have to get the DT770 pads from headroom....

i checked the beyer website and theyre selling the pads for 32 euros!

The DT770 pads (i refer to the DT770pros/80) destroys completely the sound in the DT990s. Making it a "fart canon" (as is called here) with exagerating booming bass (the bass in the DT990 is already strong and "boomy") that oscures the midrange, and details; and making the sound darker considerably. Well as a DT770, but with a much more boomy/uncontrolling bass....

My DT770 Pro/80s arrived on Thursday. Overall, I prefer them to my K701s, in spite of the fact that the K701s remain superior in certain areas (notably soundstage.)
The difference is like switching from a pair of really excellent minimonitors to good, large floorstanders. They may not be quite as refined, but they are far richer, more satisfying, and just generally more enjoyable to listen to. Also, I have never heard such bottomless bass, even from a subwoofer! Finally, the comfort is all I had hoped, and the isolation improves the overall listening experience in the same way that a soundproof room improves good speakers.

I recently bought a pair of DT880s off ebay and I'm not sure what the impedance level is. Unfortunately, the seller wasn't able to clearly tell me what the level was so I'm kind of in a fog. They look like the ones on Headroom. Does that automatically mean their 250ohm? If not, any way to confirm?

I have a set of DT990pro "pre2005" and am powering them with a Little Dott II and despite my want to upgrade I just have to listen to them and ask myself....why? It is the old argument of dimenshing returns and a look at the bank account to say I am happy with the rig. Can someone justify to me in detail why the 2005 model is better than th pro model? By the way I have replaced the cable with a stock Senn 650 cable....hated the coiled cable.

Wow, do the pads really make a difference? Well, I did notice that the pads on my DT880s are a bit thicker than on my 770 Pros...
