Ditto. Pretty sure I'm not gonna bother with the 2006 version though... I'm more interested in getting a pair of K701s and just enjoying the DT880 '03 version for what they are (a terrific pair of cans with a certain airy magic).

i've had the 2006 DT 880 250 ohms for about 3 months. its been amazing from the start. the only other cans i have are apple buds and shure e3c's and the DT 880 blow them out of the water. it really made me realize how muddy the e3c's are...

I have the 2005 DT 880-250 and it is the phone I most listen to. My tastes vary from Phish to Grateful Dead, King Crimson and Frank Zappa to female vocals like Lisa Loeb, Natalie Merchant, Nataiie Imbruglia and Suzanne Vega and occaisionally some jazz or classical.

I have not heard any other Beyer and have no desire to. Very satisfied with the DT-880. I have Grado's, Ety ER-4p/s and Koss ksc-75 for walking around and general portabilty, but when I am home, i just keep grabbing the Beyers and never get tired of them.

Is one better than the other, or they the same phone? Do they both generate the same bass?

I know this is a newbie question, but I'm new to the whole hi-fi scene

The DT-770/80 is IMO far superior to the "old" DT-770/250. The mids are much less recessed and the treble is smoother.

The 2005/6 DT-770/250 is much better than the old one. It still has somewhat recessed mids, but the bass is tighter (while still fairly strong). The treble is a little aggressive for my tastes, and more than the DT-770/80 which is why I still prefer it.

My Headphone journey started with Sennheisers, but recently the sound just didn't do anything for me. So I traded my HD-650 for a new version (05/06/whatever) DT-880. These sound so balanced yet still very energetic & fun, and are leagues more comfortable than the Senn HD-580/6*0 series. I really wasn't a fan of the DT-770, but these I can truely appreciate & live with

I believe that the old ones have coiled and the new ones have a straight, but you can custom order them with coiled if you want.

The old have straight too,at least mine do.Still loving them by the way.
With all the talk about the 990's lately,I'm so tempted to get a pair even though I'm more than happy with the 770/80's.Whats that all about???

I believe the 990 give a more refined sound, not so much bass as the 770...not that it's a bad thing

I've had many sets of headphones since the late 70's.

I recently moved to Beyer DT880's old style (2005) w/ straight cord from a set of Sony 600's and never looked back.

I bought them from a distributor on Ebay for a good price, unheard. Soon after I picked up a Meier HA-1 amp and also now have a Meier Headfive.

Can't do much better than these combo's on a budget.

I'm feeling the love, are you? Life is good...

I also think the existing 880s look better than the new ones coming out (somewhat less cute and more purposeful), but I can be swayed if the new ones end up sounding better.

Please explain the Highflyin9 recable.........
