Of course this is certainly debatable but I thought it might be interested to list some common price points and list the hp that you feel is the best dazzle for the dollar at that respective price point. I know that similar things have been done here in the past but maybe a refresh would be nice and helpful to some.

$100

$200

$300 Maddogs

$400 He400

$500

Most headphones these days seem to be overpriced. Sennheiser and Shure now think every headphone they release is worth $300 despite how bad it sounds.
I guess AKG and V-Moda now does this too. $300 is the magic number. And to think people say Bose is so evil for selling a headphone for $150.

The only really good deals to me were the Koss Pro DJ100 ($80), K240 Studio ($99) and AKG Q701 ($235).
You know, it's quite impressive how I can attach a $80 headphone like the DJ100 up to my main setup after listening to the Q701 or HD-650 and not be disgusted. I mean it doesn't sound any worse.
The DJ100 does like 90% of what the 650 is capable of (on the same exact setup). The HD-650 is just more comfortable, has a larger soundstage and is less fatiguing.

I also once scored the HD-580 for $150. HD-580 for $150 is a steal! It even sounds better than the HD-600 (IMO). Shouldn't really count though.

The old Maxell DHP-II for $30 was once the best sounding headphones under $75 easily. Too bad it's now so hard to find. It's extremely fragile though.

For $100 and below its hard to say, there are many good options. (Jvc, superlux, Maxell, Panasonic, M audio, and others)

The Mad dogs are highly recommended, but haven't had the chance to try

Denon are flogs. They charge over $500 for the D2000 in Australia.

You can get them internationally shipped from eBay for around $290. It is used, of course. But they seem to be in great shape nonetheless.

But why should I have to buy something used for the same price people pay in the US brand new? Also they don't ship outside US anyways.

Hilarious, $849 for a D5000, keeping in mind AUD > USD (approximately $885 USD)

Doesn't the Paradox have a bit of controversy on Head-Fi? I hear some people say they're great, but others not liking it. I hear that availability can be an issue with that mod, too.

Don't know if I'd say they are the best, but in the $200 and below price point the K271's are a very strong contender. Very well rounded with an excellent mid range, and some pretty fantastic isolation.
