Been going around and auditioning some of the other supra-aural headphones similar in size and price to my ESW9s like the Beats by Dr. Dre series and even some of Pioneer's studio headphones, I still can't find one with a similar sound signature like the ESW9. They are either too bassy with lots of high-end treble details lost or too detailed at the top end that it sounds too bright and lacking on bass.

Needless to say the Beats are just overwhelming in bass while sorely lacking in the midrange and above. I dunno, this might be a biased opinion from me because (1) I'm so in love with my ESW9 and (2) I might be too used to the ESW9's sound signature that other headphones' sound signature just cannot agree with my ears. =X

Your ears are perfectly fine giving you the impression that these phones are very good if not the best in its class. They have been very popular for a long time and all that for a reason.

with regard to the esw9a, really interested in purchasing a pair,  has anyone purchased them from the Amazon marketplace seller onsale?  I'm thinking of purchasing these but with the prevalence of fakes for these I want to try and make sure they are selling the legit phones. thanks!

There's nothing wrong with your ears, the ESW9s have a pretty unique signature in its price range and size category. The sound signature doesn't suit my tastes but I can definitely hear why some people would absolutely love it. The Hifiman RE262's sound signature did remind me very much of the ESW9, a full, lush, and sweet midrange with smooth treble and somewhat slow but textured bass.

These two are totaly different headphones and you should choose depending on the music type and your sound preferences. I had both and sent HD25s back and kept ESW9s.

I want an all rounder but if I had to choice I listen to these genre the most, new age, jazz and trance. So which would be the better choice for me, thanks?
