Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread

Wow, mine were £132 equivalent, and the new ones on amazon.co.jp would be £148. You could almost afford a trip to Japan with the price difference!

I thought a stronger currency was supposed to help consumers in the UK by providing better purchasing power? Funny how it never works out that way, isn't it?

I hate you

It takes every ounce of self-control I have in my being not to order another pair at this incredible price!

EDIT: Damn, I ordered another pair…

Couldn't stand the temptation.
Got myself a new set of ES10 and ESW11LTD.

Selling off my used ES10 #.#

Anyone has any suggestions for a good DAC to pair with the ES10 and Continental?

I bought a used ES10 last November.
Just bought a new set of ES10 so selling off my old used set

Try a pad swap between those two cans and post some impressions :)
I think they both will benefit !

Curious how the ESW11 will sound like with the ES10 pads. The ES10 really shines with the lambskin pads. The stock pads make the low end a little overwhelming.

Bad idea. The stock ES10 earpads are extremely horrible compared to the ESW11LTD earpads.

On the ES10, the stock earpads make the low end super prominent, intruding into the midrange and making everything sound darker.
On the ESW11LTD, the stock earpads make the treble overpowered. Everything sounded very bright and at some times sharp.

Ok so that verifies the esw11 is as bright as es10 on those stock es10 pads?

I don't have a es10 to compare but from my memory the trebles should be more similar and the mids should be more different.

I'll try again. Only swapped them briefly yesterday at a friend's house.

In half a mind not to use my ES10 on the go but use the ESW11LTD instead. The titanium housing without any scratches is really very gorgeous.

You need to apply clear protectors on them.
I bought from "bestskinsever" and although they only have one slightly smaller size (for es7) I used them on my es700 and esw11..(!)
I bet they can be used on the shiny es10..(!)
Look, almost invisible:

I use my esw11 on the go every day!
No scratches and look new :)

Also, I used polyurethane spray on my esw9 wooden cups, and that helps protect them very well but also that makes wood cups and stiffer so sound is less woody on them.

Today I noticed, while walking for a short stretch with the stock pad ES10 on my head but with no music (something that rarely happens), that my footsteps alone induced a kind of bass boominess in the ears, as if this is simply their natural frequency.

I ordered some ESW11 pads, and I look forward to trying those out to see how well they work for me...

I've been looking back at earlier posts about wood cup mods and such (from Martin), I'm curious if anyone has ever tried to install mod cups with open or partly open backs? Wonder if it would improve the sound stage without compromising the other aspects of the es10 we all know and love.
