I purchased the stepdance online at:
http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=488

I have not received word if it is not in stock but it says in the listing it is.
It looks bigger than the voyager. Is it?
The voyager was the same price at about 400 AUD.
The amp I thought you were talking about was the meier audio  XXS amp.
I confused the two.
WIth my a2000X headphones the sound has drastically changed after the 3 days of continuous burn in.
Its clearer, and the highs have calmed down.
Am listening to it right now.
Fantastic sound with crystal clarity.
THese headphones do not have enough bass for my liking but thats the only downside. the transparency has improved a lot and the soundstage seems more alive.
These almost give my audiophile car speakers a run.
I also received a response from Artmon in regards to these headphones. He said these a2000x changed the most in its sound after burn in compared to any other headphone that he has had. He said they wont sound their best until about 500 hours has been done.
In the future Im going to get a more serious setup. The sennheiser hd800 is on the cards and a dedicated amplifier to run them from.

Nice to hear that A2000X is changing much after burn in to your liking. =)

I love A2000X a lot though that may not be to the liking of many because it has less weight on the lows. For audio technica fans, W1000X will be a good complement that A2000X. If you wanna go in that route, may be good to save up for http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/yamamoto4/ha02.html. The combination may be able to match the sound of those setup costing a few thousands. They are expensive though and I could not afford one myself atm.

Stepdance is much smaller than Graham Voyager. You will be surprised when you see its size! Actually Voyager is listed as 160pounds on their website itself. Australia is selling it much higher.

I am looking forward to grabbing one A2000X myself the next time I visit Japan =)

Try a simple reversible bass mod.  Four screws hold the cups to the frame.  Put a small washer on the screws to lift the cup about a mm off the frame and you will get a warmer sound.

With the yamamoto, do you know how big it is?
I checked out the link and it looks rather large.
I would only recommend my headphones to you if you dont mind the lack luster amount of bass.
Other than that, go for it.
It is audio technica's 2nd best audiophile model.
Do you know if the sennheiser HD800 has more bass?
When you think you go to japan?

A2000X is not going to have the woody resonances of W1000X.  That should be a very significant difference(s), I think.

The w1000x will have more bass but not the clarity of the a2000x.
Titanium is superior for acoustic performance.
Depends what you like. Bass and clarity-w1000x
Less bass with more lifelike clarity -a2000x

There was someone who damped the inside of the cups on their W1000X...

I liked the ATs best with the Audio Technica amp, the model of which I've forgotten.  The Yamamoto is smaller than it looks. It's the tubes that give the impression that it is large, but the tubes are quite small.

I have heard A2000X myself so it is a safe purchase decision for me. May be going to Tokyo at the end of year for Christmas and to get A2000X. Been eyeing it for more than a year. I had owned and sold away A1000X because I felt that it is a league below A2000X in terms of resolution and clarity but the prices are not that far away. Both of them have similar level of bass and I can very well survive with that.

W1000X and A2000X are two different types of sound. A2000X has a more neutral sound with exceptional clarity at the expense of bass response (it is there nonetheless, just not as hard hitting). W1000X sounded off neutral (but in a fun and good way).

HD800 has more bass than A2000X. I can't really say I like its sound. Maybe it's the amp. I would think Denon D7000 and LCD2 are great options out there but none can beat A2000X in the area where it excels.

@Currawong: Are you referring to the woody looking AT-HA5000 amp that pairs with W5000? Or is it the lower end AT-HA20 and AT-HA25?

The HA5000 was the one. All the ATs I tried with it sounded different compared to with the Luxman P-1u.

Bortous asked me a few questions about the A2000X and portable use. I tried my A2000X on my Cowon J3 (orchestral classical music; unamped; format:flac). The sound quality was remarkably good!

It's sensitivity is a bit more than high enough for portable use, even ampless.
It's isolation is quite lacking, however.  It is not easy to get a good seal either without bending the headband or stuffing the earpads.

And in bed with one ear on the pillow is impossible. Therefore I stand by my Westone IEM 4. I tried the A2000X just for the sound quality. And that was remarkably good.

I am in love~~

Its been a while since I experienced something like that, last time was when I heard the AD1000PRM. While I have heard the A2000X in Japan and rather liked it, but listening to it using a proper amp made for AT blows me away (which it is pretty much a HA5000 with 240V converter inside). It was just a magical pair, loving the sound so far. Although they sound very similar to the AD20000/AD1000PRM, where they just share the same sound signature. I might have found the perfect home closed back headphones for me (need to listen to 4070 to fully confirm).
