ATH-ES7 Buyer's Guide or How (and Where) to Avoid Fakes.

Hey guys. just bought a set of fake es7s off ebay and decided to share my experience (they just came in today). They've matched up perfectly with the fakes. I could tell something was wrong when i pulled the set straight out of the postpak. The earpad had already fallen off. i plugged them into my computer and not only are they horrendously uncomfortable to wear but the sound was also dreadful. There also was no warranty sticker... the packaging had also been tampered with. i contacted the guy and he said that audiotechnica or his wholesaler had opened them to ensure that everything came with them. outrageous i tells ya.
i'm not buying it. i'm going to go open a dispute with paypal!
sry the post didn't make sense. i'm just fuming and i can't think straight

Also another thing to look on the back of the packet...

the writing isn't printed onto the cardboard. it's been printed on a piece of paper which has been glued on... and it's got that dodgy 1st grader type glue thing going on where the paper is all wavy and coming up off the sides.

i feel so used haha

Well I was able to buy fake ES7's yesterday (didn't know)...

Good thing I checked this forum for pictures of fakes... Bought it of a reputable shop from my country as well..

Anyways, they agreed that they were fake and agreed to take them back in and exchange to another item. Got the Sennheiser HD238 instead... sounds soooo much better than the ES7 fakeness

How is Fake ES7's sound? Can you compare it with original ES7 and other headphones? Thanks.

here's my noob reply, since i got another ES7 from the US last week.

ES7China has 3/10 bass compared to ES7US which has around 7/10 bass.
That's considering a 10/10 would be a modded beyer dt880...

treble is sharper and more aggro on the China, i'm actually preferring it over the somewhat warmer US can.

midrange...well, goes to the US. it was lacking on the China.

there

phew

I think it's about time we had some proper answer from ATH with regards to packaging, connectors, pouch etc.

I'm pretty certain my ES7s are real, even though there is no recycling logo and the back of the headphones has a piece of paper glues to it (it's glued properly though as any manufacturer would when making boxes for different markets with different language versions)

I've written a few email to audio technica.
Hopefully I'll get some answers from them.

I'll paste the reply here should I get any

First answer I got from European Rep:

Hello Wojciech

The packaging we sell ES7 BK (black) and SV (silver)in Europe should be like on the image. We did not change the pouch. We understand some people do purchase AT headphones on websites from the far east just because of price point. We also understand if people do not buy from a registered and official dealer they have the risk they do not receive the product as desired.

We strongly advice to purchase from an official dealer or to purchase through our UK based web shop Audio Technica Headphones for Professional & Everyday Use in order to receive the genuine product.

Best regards

Beach Camera is safe (it's mentioned in the OP), buy.com has to be verified tho!
