Actually, and I'm quite sure acix will agree with me on this, alot of the electronic music isn't recorded bass heavy at all, not nearly as much as alot of hiphop albums. Do they have more bass than average pop music from 5 years ago and before? yes. But do they have more bass than modern pop music? no. Also do they have more bass volume, than mids and treb (thus, bass being louder than mids and highs), no. Offcourse there will be exceptions of electronic albums or artists that are bass-heavy, but lets not make the exception the rule.
Most electronic music I have heard is recorded with some bass emphasis... Now the PRO 900 for example is a bassy headphone in stock so the K701 is generally more correct here.. Well it´s not really bassy but it lacks the treble to match up with the bass in stock so it appears bas heavy
. However on the 750 on some electronic music you don´t get much bass in others you get tons. So I would say the 750 is more correct overall since it actually have the power to show the difference
Still the K701 do nice with electronic music as well I might add
. One of the reason it being electronic not real so you don´t get as annoyed by the tone of it at times.
Acix, thanks for the review. I've got a pair of HFI-780 (stock, not recabled) and I'm very very happy with them. Since I'm curious about other models, I've ordered a pair of HFI-550 (which I'm waiting to be delivered). Great that your opinion about them match my expectations -- there are no places here in Brazil where I can actually "try" the headphones I buy, so I rely on the knowledge from reviews like yours.
I'm using the ASUS Essence STX as amp for my HFI-780.
Great build quality, synthetic leather pads are easily cleaned even after coated with several days of facial oil .. LOL
I think its more than adequate for electronic music (my main genre) as its forward enough.

It's a great combo, IMO. My Zero has OPA627AUs on the DAC section, and LT1364s on the headamp. I feed it from a portable CD player (iRiver SlimX 550) through the optical input. Bass is punchy and tight, mids are just right (don't seem recessed or boosted) and I don't feel the highs sibilant.
I'm not good at describing sound, so you should take my opinion with a grain of salt. But this como is really fun and engaging, if you're looking for this kind of presentation.
How can you determine that electronic music has bass emphasis? As far as I can see the bass is whatever the artist made it to be. It's not like recording a cello and then eqing it.
When you construct a beat I don't think anyone can claim it has bass emphasis. I mean what should they do? Add in some treble to even it out?

Ladies and gentlemen, Acix and I have an "agree to disagree" arrangement pertaining to one particular subject: The bass frequencies of the AKG K 701 as compared to those of the Ultrasone Pro 750. His opinion, as I understand it, is that the bass frequencies of the AKG K 701 are "just right" and the Ultrasone Pro 750's bass frequencies are slightly exaggerated. My opinion is that the AKG K701 has sllightly weak bass frequencies and the Pro 750's bass frequencies sound "right on". So, there you are.
What do I know, I'm a noob in this forum, but I have to agree with Peter on this. Had to sell my K701's because I thought the bass was anemic. But then again I was a club dj for the better part of a decade, so certainly used to and appreciative of the low end.
I like my Ultrasone 780's (having not heard the 750) but the Pro 900 are amazing.

Ditto on the Asus Essence card and the HFI-780.
Great combination for all kinds of music.

I took it to mean that the music was heard to have a greater than average quantity of bass content. If the creator puts more bass into it, by whatever means, then I take that to mean that it has "bass emphasis". Even if the music has been created "electronically" rather than recording of acoustic instruments, I believe the artist still has control of the proportions of frequency in the content. Taken in this context I believe Oqvist's posting was quite reasonable.
After 2 months with the Pro-750's, I too find that it really separates out various recordings: some reveal a hefty and rich depth of bass while others that I expected would do this end up "empty" in this respect. The same thing with soundstaging - some are wide and large, others are closed in and tiny. So no one signature prevails.
