Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones

I'm confused - please clarify.

The HiFiMan adapter is to protect the Amp or to protect the Headphones?

Both. Inside the adapter is a pair of 10ohm resistor in parallel and a 25ohm 1/4 watt in series per channel. The total impedance of the resistors with the HE-6's 50ohm is still close to 8ohms. The 25ohm resistor would hopefully protect the HE-6 from over-current.

OK thanks.

So If I decide to try it out.  What would I need, 4 short speaker cables with bananas or spades on both sides?

I use 10ohm resistors in parallel but not the 25ohms. In this amp, I soldered the resistors between the speaker terminals inside the amp. The 10ohm resistors provide some protection too since it absorbs most of the power.

Tried with and without resistors, couldn't hear a difference, so I left them out.
