Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]

Grado intends to build fons for Rolling Stones and Stevie Ray Vaughan listeners. A stock Grado is optimized for that purpose.

Me and (I bet) most others who did this mod just have a slightly different / more diversified taste and thus other requirements.

ok, just to add to the FOTM hype:

I am loving the Nickerators!!

I have here a SR325i that I had already packed for shipment, since they are already sold

Anyway, just for laughs I put the Nickerators on these with the stock bowl pads...

... and now I do not want to take them off....

The amount of soundstage the Nickerators generate is absolutely unbelievable!!

I am missing nothing right now with these phones, I sit here entranced and can not believe my ears.

Thank you Nickchen for this marvelous mod!

Just got word there's an international package being held for me in my local post office, Woohoo......

Off now to go and collect it, fingers crossed it's the MS1.

EDIT: False alarm, the postman/woman accidentally ticked the international box, it was only a seat for a mates mountain bike.

The wait continues.......

Interesting. The MS2i also get some soundstage with distancers, but nothing dramatical. It seems that every grado/alessandro reacts completely different on such moddings.

Well, the SR-80 does not benefit from the Nickerators - at all!

I put them on, tried the Bowls and the Flatpads - made no difference either....

So now we know - SR80 are SR80 are SR80... I will still wait for the GS-pads though...

Anyway the SR325i are back on my head

I thought you were on the way to sell your SR325. Did you change your mind under that circumstances now?

I'm really glad to have you in the team now, Ryan. The unavailability of distancers in North America has been somewhat unpleasant.

Hi Nickchen,

no that pair of SR325i's is gone...

But the effect of the Nickerators tempted me to have one set each of MS1, SR225 and SR325i (to stay!) on the way...

i'm ready to drop some money for the liberators but i'm iffy about spending money on the gs1000 pads (they are more expensive than the liberators!)
can anyone tell me if the mod still works with comfies/senn pads?
thanks

Not really. It's like making a Latte Machiato with the finest ingridients and spices - but with cold water. It works, but...

anyone try these with the ms2is? impressions. i found the "good with some and not others" statement a bit ambiguous. oh, and is there a thread on how to make liberators with pvc?
