Well this doesn't look great...

I sent an email to a store called addicted to audio and this is their reply. Doesn't look like its coming out anytime soon.

note: this is Australia, not sure if this is going to be the same in other countries

The Swidish AKG k545 impression seems legit! But to me, one of the biggest reason to vote for the K550 is it's wide soundstage in closed headphones! Hopefully they mean the sub-bass got louder not the mid bass xD

It's hard to get the perfect combo of looks, fit and sound.

Yup - If I didn't have other commitments, I would buy a set of those tan colour H6's in an instant.
They're one of my favourite portable closed-backs at the moment.

I am not sure but the back order date for mine says 10/17/2013 for availability(turquoise). I wanted the black ones but they said 12/14/2013 all of the other colors besides the black have the same back order availability.

^scroll down

if that doesn't work go to us.akg.com

then search akg k545

then click add to cart

then click back order

Ill try and take mine into best buy for a breif comparison. I am not about to buy a k550 just to compare it. I actually liked the k550 when i heard it. It needed more bass for me... just a tad. Mids werent as bad as people say to me.

Finally an actual availability date, I was bordering on giving up waiting for these (I am impatient) to get the PSB M4U1. My first choice would have been black as well, but i guess orange would do.
I hope Australia has a similar availability date.

where have you found these impressions? I can't find it I googled the heck out of it even in the swedish google.

Here are two things to note:
1) they are priced at a cheaper dollar than the brand new akg k551 or k550(299) vs akg k545( 249)
2) they also have a lower k number

I wouldn't be surprised if on sound quality they are less of a technical can than the k550 and focus more on the listening experience for a more modern croud.. Hopefully I can win a k550 bid on ebay and compare the two. I would speculate  them to sound similar to an akg k167.

However if they sound close to an akg k550 with better bass then they have a lot going for them already. The only headphone that i would prefer based on looks and simply aesthetic design would be the Philips l2 (330) or JBL Synchros S700(349). I am scared of the Philips l2 upper register though; it has been described as too sharp but with clear mids and tight bass and impact. Harman is releasing a JBL Synchros 700 that  looks similar to the akg k545 but with a more industrial look and buttons on the cups for bass and soundstage enhancement. the Jbl has been reported to have better bass than the Beats pro but even with the enhancements is said to fail in every other area vs beats with a similar soundstage.

So I would like to see the akg meet the philips and duke it out too. I kinda think I have higher hopes for the L2. Dont care too much for the JBL
