Tried these Anniversary editions and thought they were excellent. More bass than I remember from getting out of the K701 and smoother, but it's a long time since I've heard the K701. I've always wanted a pair, but since my home listening is mainly done with speakers and from experience and memory the 701's were picky about gear, so I just dropped the idea.
Ran the Anniversaries out of my portable and they performed really good. I preferred them to even the HE400's or 500's. Would love to see some measurements showing differences, because they were much better than what I remember the K701's being. Tempted to get a pair...

I bought the anniversary. Hope it doesn't disappoints. Stay tuned for unboxing video and compare against K701, Q701.

Seems like lots of good, affordable open backs on the horizon. These ones, the X1, and updated AT line.

BTW, tried them at the same Expo as you did. I took them out of the room though and compared them to the Shure SRH1840s, which next to the K702 ani's were very underwhelming. I agree that the AKG's were better than the Hifimans as well, even the HE500's. The somewhat monotonic bass of those kinda put me off, though the HE400 bass should be pretty much flawless according to measurements... Maybe it was the upper bass drizzle, dunno.

I consider myself as a "mediumcore" audiophile who is more into speakers than headphones but loves good audio presentation despite of the source. In headphones I appreciate clarity, transparency, soundstage and comfortability above anything else (especially comfortability since I use headphones from 1 to 8 hours a day). I also want my headphones and speakers to be suitable for multiple music styles.
