After a couple of weeks I don't feel the bumps on my Q701, and I don't mind them just a little bright. At 225-240$ for the Q's, I feel there's no real reason to justify the current prize of the 65th. As someone said before the AKG's do sound just a little thin (in comparison to some of the flagship headphones), but the positives (clarity, soundstage and a balanced signature with great highs and sufficient lows) far outweigh some nitpicks.

Also, they really play nice with bass boost.

Yeah I have to agree, the current price (in most places) is just ridiculous. On the other hand, they are available limited time only + have some really nice changes. In Finland the 702's and 65's cost 299 € and 399 €, respectively. I think the 65's are definitely worth that extra hundred. I'm still very interested to know how many pairs they have released / are going to release. Has anyone seen 65s with serial number over 1000 or even 500 yet?

Price on the K702anv is about $499 all over the web.  That's not too bad for a AKG K702 fan to own a limited release unit.  I bought it solely because it's a limited edition.  It may worth more money in the future. :)

I'm trying to find that out.

This is true. I use the +2db bass setting on my Fiio E17 with my Q701. They no longer sound thin, they actually sound a bit warm, but still neutral overall.

Weird, my Q701 never sounds thin and that's without bass boost! Of course it's no HD-650..and that can often be a good thing.

This pair has more than a touch of warmth. The K702 is just a tad warm, but so little that most would think that's nuts. It IS compared to the DT-880 IMO.

I use my Q701 (as a portable, rarely) with an Ipod Touch 2G with a LOD cable to my Airhead or E11 and it's a bit thinner and harsher. I prefer to use it with my Clip+ to portable amp just for the extra power.

I guess I just like a little bit more bass than you do. I could tolerate them just fine without the small bass boost, but it makes them more enjoyable to me. It also may have something to do with how loud we listen. I like to listen at around 80-85db. How loud do you usually listen to them?

Right when you asked me, I noticed I had my handy SPL meter in front of me. My HD-650 reports 75db. Not sure how accurate that is. Don't know if it's much louder with the Q701 or not.

What's amusing is that I get 75-79db straight from my Clip+ with the HD-650! Not sure what the Q701 will be at.

Don't ask me why i'm listening to the HD-650 straight from a Clip....

Don't know why, but it sounds better straight from the amp than adding the E11. Soundstage is better, clearer sound and more treble. Guess they're all related.

You'll be surprise how the 702 compared to the T1, the 702s just sounds more natural on the Phonitor. Here is more info: http://www.head-fi.org/t/595522/akg-k702-vs-beyerdynamic-t1-in-the-studio

Just finished reading through this thread and have decided that the aniversary k702 is the logical choice moving from my k601 (which I really like btw).

A shop in brooklyn, proaudiostar.com, has these and they do the "submit a request for a lower price thing." I've dealt with them twice before with success.

I've been starting to think that I definitely need better amp/dac for my 65s. I was thinking of using K550 - FiiO E17 combo for portable use and get something more solid to power my 65s. My E17 has also failed to turn on couple of times and need reset before working again. Won't probably be doing actual purchases any time soon, but would still appreciate if you have any good suggestions that I can add to my radar?

I dont know much about DAC you may need / want, but Graham Slee is an fantastic amp, I use Ultra Linear with their PSU without Diamond upgrade and its driving K701, Q701 and K702 with ease. http://www.gspaudio.co.uk/headphone-amp.htm
