I thought the mid-bass and lower treb bumps are the worst of the KNS8400's. Lacks some bass-dynamics and absolute speed, but quite tuneful regardless. Otherwise they resolve my music near perfectly. What I'm hoping of the K550, is mid-range and treble articulation (don't think it rolls off at all) of the KNS8400 with K271 bass (very musically articulate, but could go deeper, though I don't get why people fret over something that has no relevance to instrumental music almost at all [sub bass]). Mmm, here's to hoping.
Maybe I should try re-damping/modding my 8400's for more linear bass presentation? Now that'd be something. Though people comment on them being bass-light, I think it is a tad hot, at least in indoors listening. While commuting the outside noise compensates for it pretty well though. Just listened to a Pekka Pohjola bass solo and some of the mid-bass notes had a bit too much volume, but not complaining too much since notes were absolutely distinguishable.
