Nice! Did you do the cable mod?
Yup! This is my 3rd cable mod on these. 4th if you count cutting the original wire and splicing on a 3.5mm jack. First I set them up with MMCX ports, which worked fine, then when I got my 3d printer I made some 3.5mm ports, and now these miniXLR ones. This is how I wanted them to be from the get-go.

Niiiiice. What pads are those? Dekoni fenestrated? How do you like them?
They’re pretty decent, these are the TH-900 pads from Dekoni. I swapped them for some ZMF perforated lambkins I like better though.

What changes to the sound do you notice compared to the originals?

Unfortunately the originals I had were flat as pancakes. Even more than they usually are. I couldn't get much out of the sound because I was so distracted by my ears being mushed against the driver grills.

Some time ago I reterminated my Sextett cable with a 4-pin XLR connector, and just today I finished building my speaker-amp-to-XLR adapter box. So I finally got to listen to these being powered off a speaker amp rather than headphone amps. And holy cow, do they sound tremendous. Unbelievably full and rich and textured and just exciting. Previously I'd been powering them with my Singxer SA-1, which is good for about 380mW @ 600ohms. Now I'm driving them with my Marantz SR5002 which is good 90WPC @ 8ohms, or 1.2W at 600ohms. More than triple the power and boy, it shows.

If you've never listened to your Sextett plugged into the speaker taps of a beefy speaker amp, I highly recommend it.

Here's some photos of the adapter box I made. Hifiman sell something similar, but they have some resistors in the path that make it safer to use, but also degrade the sound. I skipped that, it's just a Neutrik 4-pin XLR connector soldered to some binding posts with 16AWG OFC speaker wire in the middle. A little riskier, but no signal degradation.

My review of the Wells audio Dragon Level 3. Tried the Sextetts on the Dragon, and its the best pairing ive yet to hear.

I just found a supposedly boxed and mint K240DF, but I don't remember seeing this baffle configuration for the K240DF (white felt ring), plus there appear to be more radiators than usual (normally I see 6 passive radiators for the K240DF).

I know that there were multiple versions of the K240DF, but does this look right to you guys?

Yes, I have bought one of these for a friend of mine. Looks identical. I think it's an newer version of this can.
